How long should I expect tires to last?

2017 2SS ... I'm coming up to 10k miles (multiple drives between Atlanta and Austin TX)
I'm wondering if I need to prepare for new tires within the near future and if so what is everyone going with?

What is your tread at depth wise?

Not sure. Don't have a gauge. I will take a photo

I got 19000 miles on my stock Goodyear's. I have a v6 not a v8 but from everything I've read 20,000 is a good average for the stock tires. Depends of course on have you drive as well.

stick a penny in the tread:

copy/pasta

The U.S. Department of Transportation recommends replacing tires when they reach 2/32”, and many states legally require tires to be replaced at this depth.

The idea of the penny test is to check whether you’ve hit the 2/32” threshold. Here’s how it works:

Place a penny between the tread ribs on your tire. A “rib” refers to the raised portion of tread that spans the circumference of your tire. Tire tread is composed of several ribs.
Turn the penny so that Lincoln’s head points down into the tread.
See if the top of his head disappears between the ribs. If it does, your tread is still above 2/32” , If you can see his entire head, it may be time to replace the tire because your tread is no longer deep enough.

Based on word of mouth I was expecting around 20k as well. Is everyone just going back with stock tires or anything else?

you can probably stretch it to 40k, but stay away from rain.

Based on the wheels/tires forum, it seems like a lot are ditching them for PS4's.

I only have 2500 miles or so on my Goodyears so I have a while before they wear out, but it is a debate I am having. Overall I am happy with the Goodyears, but boy they are scary when they hydroplane. But I don't want to lose the RFT because I don't want to deal with the plug a flat slime or filling the trunk with the modern spare in case of a flat tire. The PS4's seem to handle wet roads better.

Can't stand people who try to stretch important items such as tires beyond what is safe. People should have researched before buying how long these tires last and if they would be able to afford it. If not, either don't buy the car or when they do wear out, switch them to tires that last longer. Is the $1000 or so saved from stretching worn out tires worth the cost of the accident caused by the tires losing traction? Would it be worth the potential lawsuit in this litigation loving society we live in today?

I got around 18k then had a nail puncture the tire in a spot that couldn’t be repaired so I went ahead and changed the two rear tires. A couple months later I changed the fronts and stayed with the same brand and a newer model with a slightly improved tread-wear rating

After 10k miles on the original tires, the car hydroplaned so bad it was dangerous.

Tire wear indicators are on the tires. In the first picture you can see them in the bottom of the photo. When the tread is even with those time for a change. Of course if you take them into a tire store they will stick a gauge on them and tell you they need changed.

My 2016 I put around 33,000 miles on it and still had tread left. This was 75hwy & 25city. Most tires start with 12/32 of tread, but these tires only have 10/32 new. My 2018 has 9k miles and have roughly 8/32 of tread.
