Angry DISABLE AFM!!!?

So I created this thread (http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=435467) a while back regrading a stutter/shake with the transmission. I never did get around to spending the time without my music on to try and diagnose it on my own. Finally tonight I got sick of it and payed very close attention (also noticing the drivers door/window rattling, but that can wait)... I tried searching the forums but I'm on a phone and came up with no relevant results..

When the two cylinders cut off, my V6 enters V4. Once I'm in V4 I waited until approaching a hill to confirm this over and over and over: gently depressing the accelerator and monitoring the dashboard reading of when the two other cylinders fire back up and enter V6, there's a breaking point. That little breaking point I'm assuming from the engine firing up the other two cylinders is where the stutter/shake of the transmission and car comes in to play. It's very distinct I'm assuming any of you can easily replicate the issue, if not then maybe I have a transmission issue..

So my question is, HOW CAN YOU TURN OFF AFM!!!!??? I've read there's fuse 43, but believe that has to do with the exhaust tone and will also throw a CEL.

The fact that I'm in a V6 not a V8, I easily spent 98% of my 5500 miles in V6 not the V4. I've watched the dashboard as it fluctuates to V4 for a second then right back to V6 due to the driving conditions I'm always in. I have NO use for AFM, I honestly would almost think it'd negatively effect my fuel economy due to the fact that it's always firing up the two cylinders than shutting them back off then back on again, it's ridiculous. I'd rather always be in V6 even if I have to suffer some potential MPG loss, I'll be way happier driving with a smooth transmission.

The 8 speed automatic V6 is the smoothest transmission I've ever owned, but going from V4->V6 is what I literally dread every single drive now. It's a transmission issue I've had in every last vehicle that's had some sort of "fuel management" IT ****EN SUCKS AND IM SICK OF IT!! Didn't buy a sport car for Prius-like fuel economy anyway!!! There has to be a wire to cut somewhere........

Buy the Range AFM device, got it for my SS and love it. Just remember to unplug it when you turn the car off or get a OBDII cord with a switch. It will drain the battery if you don't.

Thanks guys!! Never heard of that before, but my jaw dropped at the price..although it may be worth it..

My thing is I currently have an insurance device plugged in to the port, then I was debating a tuner, and I also plan on buying a security device once my OnStar expires because it's cheaper and will alert me if the vehicle is bumped at all. Seems like my port's full lol..

Assuming there's no other solution besides a reprogram of some sort.. You know I bet Chevy's behind that device..why allow us to disable it on our own when they can market a device to us. Plus they get us in for service visits thinking it's a more serious issue. Genius. But it'll definitely be something I warn people of about Chevrolet now, I'm very dissapointed knowing the vehicle was designed to shaft us this way; I'm sure they could have perfected it with more time. It was one of the reasons I left Ford.

No you're smoking too much of a conspiracy theory tobacco… It's made by a guy name Adam ,it's his own company, range technologies it's been out about five years…

Haha hey I believe conspiracies, maybe they cut him a good deal; joking. That's good to hear though. I did notice it's much more noticeable in Sport mode than in the other two modes which was interesting. All I know is I'm bummed there's no better alternative.. AFM has to have a fuse, right? Everything has one..unless they purposefully got it hidden in layers of software..but then if that were the case they'd have made it near impossible to tap into like the Range device does. Still going to bring this up when I bring the car in and bitch about it so maybe something can come of it.

Neat little trick i found to keep AFM off on my car. Put it in manual mode and shift yourself. Mine will enter v4 mode once the first time I go through the gears but then once it comes out of v4 mode, it will never go back in to it as long as I stay in manual mode. Try downshifting when it enters v4 mode so it goes back to v6 and then upshift again and it should stay out of v4
Maybe it works on the v6 also.

Also think about the range device. I've seen people on the forum not getting it to work perfectly.

Fuse 43 will keep the afm valves from closing so it will stay bassy when v4 mode kicks in. It will also throw a code though.

I like V4 mode. I just wish it was more user controllable or I wish i knew why when idling at stop lights it doesn't go into V4 mode.

Haven't noticed an A8 issue with my V6.

It doesn't go into v4 at stop lights because it doesn't have enough horsepower to get away from the light Safely, according to their tests… That was written up somewhere on the Corvette forum by a GM guy last year.

and the new range works fine...2000 miles and not a single problem...stuff posted around the forums where there were problems was old software and not updated....

I don't even feel it kicking in and out as I did on my 15 2ss rs. I felt it all the time and it was irritating and I figured my 16 would do it also. Nope its good.

Totally agree. I sold my range, since it's not noticeable at all on the v8. It was terrible on the 2013/SS.

I notice the shudder/vibration too but I am just living with it. It is what it is. I wouldn't mind if it never went into V4 mode either but it's not bad enough for me to do anything about it.
