Fantastic, thanks for doing this. I enjoy your style, laid back, humble, but clearly talented and skilled. Trustworthy also comes to mind. Sadly, most of these qualities are lacking in a large percentage of shops. Well done sir.

I'm looking forward to seeing just how yours turns out. I'm ready for more power myself. I've been looking for Janetty to come out with some power packages for the 6th gen ZL1, like they had for the 5th gens.

How much is just a tune worth?

What will a Throttle body do?

What will a CAI or Rotofab give me?

What do Headers add?

What does Flex fuel add?

What do pulleys do?

What does a camshaft do?

What does a larger blower add?

The first series covers the first 3 Items, I think it would be impossible to cover every conceivable combination so we are choosing the most common questions we get.

Ted, I always get a good feeling when I deal or see anything by you. Like someone else said, you are humble, calm and obviously knowledgeable. Those words echo the experience I had with you back in 2011 when I got an email tune from you after I put long tube headers on my 2010 SS.

My zl1 1le has 1340 miles so i'm gearing up to get some work done to it. You are one of the top choices.

I'm looking forward to this series of videos !!! PLEASE, upload to Youtube as well, some of us don't have Facebook.

Keep up the good work.

Ted
Can it be assumed that this specific tune will work for all our motors as well as yours or does one need to have a baseline from each motor first and then tuned specifically for that motor to achieve the same numbers ? Is there a good manufactures reason for tuning them the way they do, such as keeping valves cooler with a richer mixture ?

Also, while I’m guessing your tune like any other will void ones warranty, exactly what trouble might it cause with a dealer should one need to bring it in for some reason/issue ?

Some have hypothesized that the rich mix is to keep the cats cool.

Given that my mods are likely to be added in stages;

What are your thoughts on your leaner tune affecting the OEM primary cats with an OEM exhaust manifold, a secondary cat delete and cleaner flowing cat back exhaust system?

Would headers with high flows be necessary with the leaner tune long term?

Thanks in advance, I know that you are crazy busy.

Thanks Mike.

My IT guy is on vacation this week, that was a facebook live video so I don't know how to upload it to facebook.

If you know how I will give it a go.

Ted.

Ted, will you be doing anything with a Ported 95 MM + ported SC?

I was thinking of Rotofab, Ported SC +95 MM TB, E85, and maybe a small pulley. A mild but noticeable jump in power. I have the RF on now and although I have been warned the RF could make my A10 ZL1 slower on a stock tune, I would have to disagree. It is a little faster based on my ETs. My 1/4 MPH is all over the place, so maybe that throttle closing effect is the cause. Also now that I am on DRs I can clearly feel the Camaro bog at the line. I suppose your M6 has an even worse case.

Given the previous over-fueling cooling cats theory, do you think your tune with a small pulley but stock cats, risk the cats? I want to keep at least the stock front cats.

Gentlemen Thank you all for the great response, this kind of feels like the old days of Gen5 when we would post something and get an overwhelming response.

I have had some time to process the info from the dyno session and I will be adding the results from the CAI and ROTOFAB we did right after that video.

When I look at a calibration and the matching data logs I see that GM is requesting a certain EQ ratio or in layman's terms AFR.

This chart (BELOW) is the AFR request from the stock tune, you take Lambda 1 / this value and get your commanded lambda, for example at the top rpm range you see 1.19 so 1/1.19 = .84 and in the video you see it went all the way down to .72 lambda

If you want to convert lambda to AFR take 14.7/ Lambda value so 14.7/.72 is 10.58 AFR.

I set the commanded Lambda to EQ 1.22 or .82 Lambda or 12.0 AFR which is richer than the .84 or 12.35 that GM was asking for.

We also look at long term fuel trims or LTFT and the goal is to achieve Negative 1-2% and when we go to WOT achieve commanded Lambda.

From my experience GM was very good at MAF calibration on most all of the previous generations and other models.

This model it seems GM Missed the boat and it is Rich Everywhere, by over reporting Air flow which leads to seeing more airflow than expected which in turn causes the throttle closing to control that air flow.

MAF calibration is the single most important part of the tune it affect everything else.

I had to take about 8% out of the whole MAF curve then another 8% up top to get the LTFT and AFR in line with commanded.

The Results of my tuning speak for themselves.

A bad tune from the factory makes me look like a hero LOL.

Ted.

In the video I did test the 95mm LT5 TB I would not expect much out of porting at this stage.

I installed and activated my Flex fuel sensor.

Headers are going in as we speak.

I do not feel the cats would be at risk with my tuning.

Ted.
