Tpms Question

Does any one know what are the effects of not having TPMS ? I am looking at getting a winter tire step up and wondering if I am only going to have to look at the light or is there an alarm or would it effect the car driving modes.?

Maybe I am just being cheap😀 and should just get the sensors. Thanks

doesn't affect modes or anything else. my winter setup doesn't have tpms.. its the dash tire light light that stays on.....
and centre screen warning you dismiss each time u start the car.

I 2nd this. No issues other than a TPMS notification.

The upshot is in springtime when you put the main tires back on, the TPMS sensors are already paired and you don't have to do anything but put them on.

I'd get the sensors. These days you can clone them so you don't need to reprogram 2x/year.

Wonder if my tire guy knows this ... Just got new winters with TPMS ... Putting them on after next week's heat wave is over. Would make life simpler for both of us

How do you get this done? I'm purchasing a second set tomorrow.

Good timing... I just dropped off my winter tires and tpms sensors at the shop to get them mounted on new wheels and we went through the cloning process.

The tech at the tire store read the sensors on my car with a scanner, then held the new tpms sensors near the scan tool one by one and it cloned them. After install you'd need the scan tool again if you want to get the positions correct, but you'd have to do that after a tire rotation anyways.

I got a basic programming tool with some lugs, locks and tpms sensors from a member here. I haven't used the programmer yet but there's only one button so I assume you hold the tool near the valve stem and press the button one by one. This may also work if the tpms sensors weren't cloned, idk...

Thanks for the info. I was just going to buy the tool and do it myself but now I think I'll keep the sensors in hand to make cloning easier. I don't have a square setup so only possible rotation will be side to side if that happens.

I'm not clear on the difference between cloning and using the single button programmer. I assume if cloned and the wheels are put in the same position the programmer won't be needed at all. I went square for winter and am going to use 7mm spacers up front so the rears don't stick out past the stock 305s. That way I get my full 30k mile warranty on the PA4s, lol...
