Install American Authority Rear Window Louvers

Hello everyone. This will be my first in a small list of how-to topics so I'm going to start with one of the easier tasks to accomplish. Window Louvers.

Items you will need:

1 - Rubbing Alcohol
2 - Clean Rags
3 - X-Acto Knife (Optional)
4 - High Quality Mounting Tape "Double Sided Tape" (Optional)
5 - American Authority Rear Window Louvers (found here - https://www.americanauthority.com/co...-window-louver)

First, remove 9 mounting tabs from the enclosed packet found in the box with the window louvers. Using rubbing alcohol and a clean rag, clean them completely to assure a good oil free surface for the tape to stick to.

The American Authority rear window louvers do come with their own 3M double sided tape found in the same packet as the mounting tabs. However, I like to use Gorilla Brand mounting tape shown here in 30lb (black) and 15lb (clear) to assure that the louvers remain tight and secure during spirited driving or high wind scenarios.

Apply the 30lb double sided tape to the entire length of each mounting tab, using the x-acto knife to trim any excess if needed. Once all 9 tabs have tape applied (opposite face from threaded insert) mount them as shown in the picture below with the supplied acorn nuts only hand tight.

The next step is also optional, however I prefer to use the 15lb (clear) tape on specific areas of the louver to further minimize any chances of rattle between the louver and glass. Although most have not had issues with rattle, some have reported a minor bit of rattle from loud exhaust vibration or from high speed driving.

Completely clean your rear glass with your choice of cleaner and then give a good wipe down with the rubbing alcohol. Failure to get your back glass clean will result in failure of the tape. Next remove the second plastic covering from the double sided tape (x9).

From this point forward, it helps to have an extra set of hands to help mount the louvers. With one person on either side of Camaro, line up the top edge of the louvers with the upper edge of the glass. Work together to assure that the louvers are completely centered, and then allow it to lay over towards the rear of the trunk until all the tabs are touching the glass.

Press each tab against the glass and then remove each acorn nut (x9) from the threaded insert on the tab.

Again with an extra set of hands, remove the louvers from the window and set aside carefully.

This will allow you access to each tab. Firmly press each tab into the glass, assuring that the tape on each one fully engages the glass. At this point I like to let the tabs settle by leaving the car in the sun for a few hours.

After checking to make sure each tab is securely affixed to the back glass, re-mount the louvers. Hand tighten the acorn nuts (going too tight can pull the taped tabs back off the glass and/or cut into your painted finish (if you chose to paint the louvers).

And finally....smile at the new look. And remember, if you want to clean your back glass, the louvers are now on/off in minutes, it is as easy as removing the 9 acorn nuts and pulling the louvers free.

Enjoy!

Did it come gloss black like that? I waited too long and now they're sold out. Guess I'm waiting for the next batch. Thanks for the install info.
