Well, I'm confused... the damn cigarette lighter plug on my 16ss is hot all the time! I installed my gauge this weekend but had to Install a temporary switch under the dash as I couldn't find a switched wire and was running short on time.

I plugged mine in the dome light where everyone hardwired their radar detectors. Check for the thread on how to hard wire a radar in the how to section.

The cluster needs to be reflashed as a ZL1 and you will have a factory boost gauge in your cluster

Wow that is weird. Wonder why they would be different . Mine is a 16 also, and before I did mine I spoke with others that did the same thing I did with great success.

I'm thinking that maybe I just got a little impatient ...i searched for the cigarette lighter power wire with my volt/ohm meter with the 'key' on. When I located the wire and measured 12v, I pushed the key button to power everything off expecting my voltage reading to drop to zero. I know there is a several second delay for some accessories to power off, maybe I just didn't wait long enough. I'll check that out tonight.

I'm having engineer friend of a friend hook me up with a flash. It has to be specific to your car build is the problem. If you have a friend at a dealership they could do it if they know enough about the whole situation.
(Meaning you have to have you exact build then find part numbers for your specific cluster and two other parts. But they have a program to figure that stuff out I guess) |

I would think all you need is a gm mdi 2 with a susbscription to the sps programming website.
You would be looking to change the as-built data that is flashed into the instrument cluster. I own a gm mdi 2 and will log onto the gm website to see what kind of options are available for the DIY'ers like myself. I'd imagine the instrument cluster is the same; but flashed with a different operating system to show the additional gauge(s). keep you folks posted.

I'm in on this too. Would be very cool to be able to use a factory boost gauge.

Hey guys, my buddy looked into and still same thing needed the problem is finding a dealer that will do it. Essentially all your doing is telling your cluster that your car is a ZL1. I haven't found a dealer that will do and I haven't had a tuner look into it yet since I haven't completely decided what I'm doing with mine yet so nothing has even been bought and I'm really not worried about it yet.
Side note my buddy bought the P3 gauge for in the drivers vent with the analog set up and it works great so far. Its an actual reading with a vac tube and shows up as a digital read out. Looks good and you can read codes and I think like 20 - 30 other things on it( not 100% sure but its a good number things) |
