I like how your club does different colored cones to show what side to drive on. Nothing but orange in my neck of the woods.

Doing my 1st full course run this weekend after a few trips through the novice 1/2 course last month. Looking forward to coming in last, but having a fun time

That's it?!?! No 315/30/19??? Where did you get this info? I've been waiting to buy 305/30/19 RE71Rs for my AutoX setup this year because I heard the rumors about the Rival S. I think a 305/30/19 front & 315/30/19 rear setup would be perfect for the 1LE.

Edit.

It might be worth a test but for me its still bridgestones. They work in the wet, the cold, the hot, of which we get all of those in a season here in Wisconsin. Its consistent for me on all surfaces. Their turn in is much better and thats needed for a massive car like ours
The main reason I've been waiting to see if the Rivals come out in 19" sizes was the potential for bigger sizes.... since the RE71Rs only go up to 305 for 19s I think a 305 & 315 Rival S could be a good (potentially better) alternative for the 1LEs. Most of the Vette guys I run with run the Rival S since they can run the 335s in the rear, that's A LOT of tire haha I think if we had an option bigger than 305 for the rear it could help compete better with the Vettes.

P.S. I know you don't have a 1LE yet lol So yea the RE71Rs are probably still your best bet.

Assuming this will be the Rival-S 1.0 compound?

I have heard 1.5 and I also heard the two sizes listed above in 19s.

1.5, but it has nothing to do with compound. The difference between the 1.0 and 1.5 is the way the carcass is wound. They did this to sharpen up the response on all of the tires that are narrower than 275.....Which is why I find it interesting that these sizes will be 1.5.

Apex, I still think the re71s are the right tire to be on......especially for MKE. Only testing will show for sure.

if they just built it right the 1st time they wouldnt need to have all these 1, 1.5, blah blah blah lol. I dont like the games BFG seems to be playing with us.

My personal experience with 1.0 and others are that they last till the cords (within reason of surface demands). I've heard from others that the Rival-S 1.5 with the different belt configuration no longer lasts till the cords and "heat cycle" out. Not sure if anyone can relate to this.

Agreed, 1 tire that has had revisions almost every year? Holy crap!

They are just trying to keep up.

Something else worth noting for the 1LE guys. The Rival (almost all BFGs actually) typically run exactly the same dimensions as Mother Michelin as listed by TireRack....which puts the actual tread width of the 305 BFG nearly a 1/2" wider than the RE71.

I can't speak to the BFGs cycling out more or less after the change, Bridgestones for me, but I don't remember Pete Calhoun or anyone else saying anything about a compound change.

Good point on the "actual size" of the BFGs compared to the RE71Rs. Based on the true dimensions going to the 305/19 square REs will net slightly more tread width in the front and actually slightly less in the rear when compared to the stock goodyears, but of course the REs should have better grip. The question now will be do the slightly wider 305 Rival S perform better than REs in the same sizes... Testing will definitely be needed and I for one don't have the funds to by both and do that testing lol So I guess I'm just going to go with my original plan and get the RE71Rs.

I'll definitely be trying the BFGs. I tend to be a bit of an overdriver and they don't punish you as bad as the Bridgestones for overdriving. Also, with a two driver heavy car, like the Camaro, it isn't too hard to overheat the Bridgestones, IMHO. Not saying one tire is better than the other but I think for my case the BFGs should work well. I will, however if possible, test them against the Stones.
