$99.99 2021 Nav. System Map Update worth it?

I did a quick search here and didn't find anything regarding this.

"The new 2021 Chevrolet Navigation System Map Update is now available. Save $60 and receive free shipping" They mail you a USB with the update custom to your vin#

So I have used the built-in navigation several times, but to be honest, Waze is my go-to Nav. Any members here update yet and think it's worth it?

I do have a question regarding the Nav. A couple of times I've used it then changed my mind midway to my destination only to find out I can't turn it off. So how do you turn it off once it's set?

Try hitting Nav, Menu icon, then Cancel Route should be your top of the screen choice...Good luck.

I use mine in my '17 Impala a lot...Not sure how much better another $100 would make it. I get that same offer all the time.

The handy speed limit in HUD is drawn from NAV database, and that gets outdated quickly. It makes some sense to have it updated just for that.

I bought the updated map last year. Won't do it every year, but we like having it fairly current. Same deal then from what I remember.

This was discussed a couple of times, most people aren't on board with the idea of shelling out $100 each year for simple map updates, and (understandably) prefer aa/carplay + waze.

I for one like the excellent HUD and DIC integration, plus the factory nav never led me down the wrong roads or to misplaced address, unlike google.

Another thing I can't stand is visible cables, but I'll soon be able to try AA Wireless, and if that works well, that's another convenient option.

Own an SS or ZL1 and pay attention to the speed limit?

Never liked built in Nav. I just used my Garmin with free lifetime maps.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know this was a yearly thing but I did order it just to be up to date.

Like everything else, please quit falling for the Barbie syndrome. You don't need to pay for the dream house, ken and the new dress.

If everyone quit paying for it, it would go away.

I wouldn't do this every year but every 3 to 4 years would be ideal. Major changes can happen.

The factory navigation is nice with the HUD integration. As for speed limit, well, that's why I have my trusty Uniden R7. That has probably saved me enough times to pay for itself, despite it's high cost.

Just my $.02, but with Google Maps and Apple Car Play or Android Auto you are foolish to pay GM for Map upgrades.

As all they are doing is making the latest map available for updating older cars it will likely never go away. They have to update the maps regularly so it will always be available even for the few that might want it.

Also, big need would be if you live in an area with a lot of growth, new construction. Can easily have a situation where an address for a house built in 2018 won't show up on my 2017 LaCrosse. Same for POI. New businesses won't come up.

Now if you have Apple car play you can just use Waze, Maps or Google and you will already be up to date and you can use your larger in dash screen.

Those don't have HUD integration, though.

Another thing is that those maps rely on having data, which you won't always have on a road trip. Granted, downloading the map in advance can mitigate the issue, but sometimes people just take detours on a whim, which limits the functionalities of maps that rely on Internet.

Factory navigation makes you miss out on the best part of Waze, which is being the first to report a speed trap.
