2020 ZL1 1LE Valve Springs

Im A little pissed today. 2600 miles on my 2020 ZL1 1le and yesterday I took it out because I couldnt get may software to update cause the stupid radio stays on for 5 min if you dont update and a valve spring on cylinder 4 broke and bent one or two of the valves. Now I have to pull off the headers and complete exhaust to put stock crap on so the warranty would cover it. GM Service bulletin: any zli built between 6/20 and 9/20 have bad valve springs. CRAP

How many times can GM get the valve springs wrong? This has been the case for years. Crazy to me. Good luck with the repairs. Thankful its not worse.

So newer models don't suffer from poorly designed oil pump but have valve springs issues?

On a side note, hopefully they won't realize you are tune and try to deny your warranty claim. I suppose it being a service bulletin should facilite your repairs under warranty

Another reason I put aftermarket springs (and entire valve train) in mine at 350 miles.

Good time to send the heads off for porting and an ungraded cam & valve train.

The oil pump issues affected two full years, the valve springs are only a few hundred vehicles built in a small window of time. Big difference.

Thought the same. They will see you changed the tune, so why bother to take your exhaust off. I realize you have to take off headers.

I’m betting the first thing GM will want checked before authorizing any warranty repair will be the tune file. If the checksums doesn’t match their records be prepared for your powertrain warranty being flagged as void.

But got he OPs point, what a bummer. I've had my 2010 C6 GS for about 30k miles and 8 years now and the only issues has been so far a master clutch starting to go bad.

My 2020 ZL1 was built 9/12/20. How common is this? Should I be concerned? It's got 3500 on it. I don't think they'd do anything unless a spring breaks.

Corvettes were affected as well.

Obviously there was a material quality problem at a supplier. Designing valve train springs is not rocket science, but if the specified material and/or processing is not used, the springs are doo doo.

No doubt, GM will not replace springs unless one fails. That's a shame.

The majority of valve spring failures occur within a few hundred miles, although a few cases have occurred later than that. But at 3500 miles your chances of running into this are pretty much nil.
