If you brush it regularly, it'll keep the dead skin from your hands from getting matted down into the suede as bad. That mixed with oils from your hands, creates a sort of paste

yea probably

I know some people also wear gloves

i use the sonax stuff and it works great. seems like this is the consensus on the detailing groups i am on, but i have not tried anything else.

I use a toothbrush to agitate and work the stuff in and kinda fluff up the alcantara. after letting it sit for maybe 5 min, i use a damp microfiber to pick up as much of the dirt/product as possible.

I used just the Sonax and a few light colored cheapo low-pile microfiber towels. Have to turn and change the towels often because the grime transfers to the towels. Lighter colored towels (white, yellow) help so you can see the point when no more grime transfers and you've gotten the alcantara clean.

No brush, although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. The key is to remove the grime, not grind it in. Brush might help at the very end to lift the pile, but a dry towel does the same.

Exactly this! You have to stay ahead of it. You'd be surprised how much dead skin gets in it. Brushing and occasional sonax will keep it looking and feeling good.

I clean my steering wheel every 6 months. I use microfiber cloths and I give it a good brushing. My steering wheel is as new.
