Question Headers + straight pipe = CEL?

Thinking of getting 1-7/8s headers and straight piping all the way. I did this on my 5th gen Camaro and I always had a CEL even after tuning twice. I will admit, I installed them when I was a noob and decided to make my own O2 extension with some wire laying around, which I think was my problem. I’m no expert now but I’ve definitely gained more mechanical experience, but, correct me if I’m wrong, I think wire type/gauge has something to do with voltage readings etc, which I think was my problem. Anyways, I could never get rid of that CEL and it was the p0300 code which drove me absolutely insane. Tried almost everything you can do on the surface and never got rid of it. Anyways, I was planning on doing everything right with the proper parts and no corner cutting on making parts DIY. I will be going to a muffler shop for them to weld back my exhaust after I install headers and then to a reputable tuner here in Houston. Has anyone had problems with a CEL after a similar setup?

You’re better off tuning out the header codes before you actually install the headers or you can end up with permanent codes in the ECM memory. Any decent tuner can facilitate that, then touch up the tune after you get them installed.

P0300 is a misfire code, not typically associated with headers.

You get a CEL because the 02 location changes with your headers hence the extension being needed for them. I haven't heard any having issues where it stays on but i'm running a straight pipe up on 2 inch headers and no cats, when the car was tuned it was just a simple fix for any tuner out there to get that corrected.
