No more free build sheets, ughh
Sent an email to the social media email at GM for a ZL1 I’m looking at and got this reply today:
Thank you for reaching out. As of November 2021, we are no longer able to provide this information. However, you can purchase a copy of the vehicle invoice (documentation of the vehicle cost broken out by model and factory options) by visiting www.gmmediaarchive.com Please let us know if you have any additional questions. It’s now $50 to get the info. And looking at the linked site, it appears you can only get the invoice and not the detailed list of RPOs anymore.

Isn't there a plate under the trunk mat that lists all the RPOs?

They ditched that in 2019 or 2020. The only thing you get these days is the QR code in the door jamb that is too small to list all options, it only covers a small subset.

Thats some garbage. Mary is running GM into the ground to appease the EV crowd and stockholders only. I am seriously contemplating not buying new GM cars the next time I need a new vehcle.

I asked my salesman for it. He emailed me a PDF file a few days later.

I got the same response from that email address. Luckily I had an old build sheet I found in my emails from the dealer when the car was still at 3400 status. But it lists everything in the car.

Refusing to consider another Chevy seems like a little bit of an over reaction to me. Agreed, $50 does seem steep, but if you take the totality of the request, it might make more sense when adding perspective:
Someone has to receive the request, look up the VIN, compile the information and send it out. In all it's not an hours worth of work for a car built in the computer age, maybe more if they need to get out the microfilm records for an older vehicle. Depending on how many requests come in, time can add up pretty quickly. Making big assumptions on how they had the department set up, someone may have been fulfilling those requests as an ancillary task to their primary role. It's possible that fulfilling random requests for build and invoice information started taking a lot of time an there was no "defined" process except to send the info out when an email request came in. It's possible that at some point they realized that the process needed to be formalized and that there was a cost associated with creating the documentation, hence the referral to GM Media Archives and the upcharge. It's also quite likely that this service is farmed-out to a 3rd party, and those labor costs have probably gone up enough to dictate that retrieval of the records can no longer be complimentary... If you consider some of the least expensive used Gen6s are still in the high $20k range, $50 is 0.2% of the cost of the vehicle for information that is generally nice-to-have versus necessary. |

Like I already posted. Just ask your salesperson for it.
