I change my oil at 4000 miles and its usually 50% then. Like you, mine is driven every day and cared for in all aspects at a high level.

That's pretty excessive, though.

You are missing the point of using synthetic oil. Now if you are using conventional oil then 3k miles sound about right, but synthetic is easily fine for 5k miles.

Just saying, it's your money you are essentially pissing down the drain.

This is likely true for most folks, but as driving conditions vary I would recommend that one do lab testing including TBN to be sure.

Why? Because someone who DD's a 10 minute commute on city streets in Michigan will likely have vastly different crankcase chemistry than someone who DD's 45 minutes on the highways in South Florida.

Yeah it adds $40 to the cost of the oil change, but if it lets you cut your oil change frequency in half (from an arbitrary 3k miles to 5-10% left on the OLM), then it might just pay for itself, in addition to giving the extra knowledge and piece of mind that having actual data in your hands offers.

Oh, I get it, it's just that I am recommending a mileage-based schedule if you somehow don't like following OLM for whatever reason.

OLM already takes the type of driving into effect, so I just follow that, personally.

But yeah, if you really want to be sure, UOA is the way to go. From what I have seen, OLM is actually on the conservative side according to the UOA results.

Little over $100 for mine at my local service center. 10 quarts of full synthetic isn't cheap. But yeah, you basically paid the price of two oil changes.

Sounds like they ran out of lubricant just before they bent you over....OUCH!

Oh and get this https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600670 and do them yourself. About the only part that's annoying is having to take the oil to a recycle center, but I'll do that over paying someone over $200.

Just buy your 10 quarts (~$60) and your filter ($15). Then take it to an oil change place. They'll charge you $25-$30 to change it. Done for about $100!

I'm too lazy to change it myself.
