Most likely to block water splashed up into the air filter while driving.

If you daily drive in the conditions I would not recommend messing with that cover, block, or whatever you want to call it.

You have to remove the hood latch to get the cover off.

The Challenger has an open inlet for direct air right through the fog lamp. Water doesn't appear to be an issue. Or do they also use a ...."Block"?

On High Performance models, OEMs are a little more lenient on snow packing/water ingress as the use application/intent is less probable in inclimate weather.

The new GT500 is a straight shot

On the challenger 392 you can purchase the lower hellcat box and tube for around $100 . Straight through and does make a huge difference it’s what I ran on mine . I wish we could get something for the 6th gen

I think all variants of the 2016+ have that intake block plate. I do know the bottom of the airbox gets ALOT of debris laying in there fairly quickly, maybe that's why they put the block there, it would be even worse if the plate was missing. OR, LOL the obvious is rain and snow getting in there. But you know GM is kind of picky in the NVH dept. Maybe they put it there to lower the intake noise?
