Oil catch can - first drain
OK so today I decided to drain my oil catch can for the first time after about 1000 miles. I caught a lot more than I thought I would. The cup in the photo is 3 oz in size. I filled it to overflow and then caught probably another 1 - 2 oz. This first 1000 miles does include all the WOT runs on the dyno to tune the mods you see in my sig. And after that - while I have not beat on it every time out I have run it up the gears ( 1-2-3) at WOT about 8 - 9 times enjoying my new power.
The oil I caught looks and smells like used oil. Nothing foamy or gasoline smelling about it. No unusual crude in it - just plain old oil. Thoughts? About right? Too much? Who knows?

May not be too much if you are pushing it, I would expect more under a load.

Well you do have more pressure with the new oil pump.

That is a bit much, but all motors are different depending on how well the rings seated during breakin.
But, be glad that is NOT going into your intake air charge......the can is doing its job and even though it is a direct competitors it is one we endorse and have tested plenty. Great can and the proof is right there. |

I will be adding one, I have 6000 miles on my car. Would I have to pull the intake manifold on it and clean it out or will I be fine since I am adding one?

I might get ~2 oz after 4k miles. I drive the car very hard most of the time.
Must have good seated rings...put the car to the floor on the way out of the dealership when I bought it lol. |

Just drained mine after 1500 miles and only had a fraction of what the OP got out of his...must be one of the lucky ones!

Not sure I follow completely. Can you say a little more? Not sure how a Hi-Vol oil pump affects blow-by into the crankcase and then on to the catch can. Quote:
I did nothing special for break in. Just drove it. Didn't keep it under 4k rpm for ther first 1500 miles. Also didn't rip the gears every time out. I did jump on it early on when the oppotunity and timing felt right (1-2-3 WOT runs). I also realized I used the wrong starting mileage for my calculation - I actually had 1400 - 1500 miles on the catch can. So, thats a little less oil caught per mile than I originally thought.

You can use Seafoam spray in the intake threw the TB. Works well.

You can reach inside the IM opening with paper towel and get most of the puddled oil out and the rest should work its way through. Seafoam works well also but you should be fine just blotting up what you can reach.
The Elite is also one of the best on the market....and we test and dissect them all. Cant go wrong with either of those. |

Seems like alot, may just be doing a better job than other catch cans? Maybe it's the new HV oil pump? I would like to know more also.
