GM rear splash guards fill in

I installed the GM rear splash guards on my ‘18 2SS Vert. The car has the OEM Ground Effects as well. Very tight fit, but on the car and look good. (Getting new wheels with 285/305 tires.)

Car is Mosaic Black Metallic.

There is a small gap between the the body and splash guard, just above the top edge of the rear ground effect component. The gap is about 3 inches long, and about 1/8 inch wide at its widest/base. See pics.

My thought is to fill in the gap with some kind of black high-temp silicone, then carefully lay a bit of touch-up paint over that.

I was going to use Rutland 500-degree RTV black high-temp silicone sealant to fill the gap.

Questions for the body work experts:

1. Is the Rutland 500-degree RTV black high-temp silicone sealant a good choice to fill the gap? Or is there something better/more flexible/paintable?

2. Is it okay to use blue painter’s tape directly on the car’s paint?

Thanks!

Well...I'm no paint/body expert but, I use blue painters tape on this car and many others all the time without issue. As for the silicone and filling in the gap, sure you could fill it in, but I think you would be trading a problem for a problem. That being said, albeit it's not that noticeable, you have to look at it everyday, really comes down to your OCD.

1HP: Thanks for the info.

Obviously the rear splash guards were not really meant to fit over that part of the OEM ground effects. But I think even this looks a little better than the ZL1 rock guards.

The gap is pretty small, but as you said my OCD will make me notice it.

From additional research, I’m going to try black automotive seam sealant to try and fill the gap in.

Any other auto body specialists, please feel free to school me on this...
