Unhappy 2016 2SS 6M - Extended Cranking [VIDEO]

Owner of a 2016 Camaro 2SS here.

Less than 10K miles on my baby!

Recently started observing a strange behavior: in an intermittent on-ff fashion, the car goes through couple of seconds of extra cranking before the engine manages to turn on.

Please watch for yourselves:
https://imgur.com/a/S5XHDYW

Both of the instances were ones where the car had sat for a few days. The extra cranking only happens on the very first (cold) start; once that's out of the way, the car normally fires right up with 1 or 2 cranks only.

My mechanic dropped by last night checking the battery claiming that it's "as good as new".

Going through some of the posts here, it appears that some people have had issues along this line that have kept getting worse over time eventually leaving some stranded and even requiring engine replacement!

I got a year and half left on my power-train warranty and this little behavior has truly started getting me worried :(

Then again, a lot of people here also have also claimed that this is considered normal behavior for such a large engine with direct-injection.

Called the dealer today and as expected, they basically told me not to bother bringing it in as they wouldn't be able to replicate the problem.

Am I just concerned for no reason?

Any insight would be appreciated guys.

Perfectly normal. You should hear my ZL1 after sitting a few days when starting. It sounds a lot worse but the battery is good! Drive on!

Normal. Since the high pressure fuel pump is driven off the cam, needs to crank a bit to build up pressure before it lights off.

As stated above and according to several online sources, DI engines need to build up pressure prior to the first injection. Your video doesn't show anything out of the ordinary for the initial cold start, especially if ambient temperature is lower.

Mine does that as well. Sometimes even when it's not cold start. Don't know if it's an issue, but nothing out of the ordinary yet.

Now if you have some super slow cranking on a hot engine, that means your starter needs some heat shielding.

As others have said, that's perfectly normal start time - the bigger concern would be if it cranked slowly. Now that most mornings are in the 20s here my car takes longer than your video on the first start of the day, but the crank itself is strong; just a bit of pressure build up before firing.

Any recommendations on heat shielding for the starter? I know for a fact I need to do that, but I wasn't sure what most people get.
