Speaking of “Gap Insurance” make damn sure your insurance plan pays out atleast 100% on a claim. Read the fine print. You might be surprised just what your guy considers gap insurance as oppose to you.

Like others have said, the later you wait, the better price you'll be able to get. But then you also deal with the fact that whatever is on the lot is what's left and if there's an option you wanted/don't like, you're stuck with it.
If you see something you like and you can get a price you think is fair, I'd just go for it. Sometime's getting exactly what you want is worth more than saving a few hundred bucks. |

Best time to buy:
1. After you join the National Corvette Museum (you have an available supplier discount). 2. When the seller has a compelling reason to offer a deep discount. 3. When you don’t need to buy. 4. When there are lots of alternate sellers available with what you want. |

The question isn't "When to buy" it's "where to buy". Not all dealers are created equal and not all are willing (or even need) to make a deal on the last day of the month. The variables are numerous.
What most don’t realize is that some dealers are able to discount deeper than others, even though they are all purchasing that unit from the automaker for the same price. Higher volume stores that meet or exceed quotas can often “afford” to offer steeper discounts, while smaller stores don’t have that luxury and need to make their profits on the units themselves. If a buyer goes into the wrong dealer at the 11th hour on the last day of the month, and the sales manager hands them a price and says “This is the best we can do,” they are probably not lying. But what that buyer doesn’t know is that the dealer down the street can do better because they sell more cars. However, that high volume dealer may have already met their quota for the month and as such, may not be as willing to take a loss on a sale (back to my point about numerous variables). The only way to know for sure who has the best price is to do your shopping from the comfort of your phone or computer and compare several quotes in writing. However, that process is most effective when it is done within a few weeks time. FWIW, I have found that using CarGurus.com and expanding your search to at least 250-500 miles yields the best (and fastest) results.
