also I would advise doing a shift learn reset after you make a bunch of changes to the transmission. It seems to shift smoother and less quirky if you let it start fresh and relearn the changes.

It will shift like crap for a bit then start learning and smooth out.
So this is the key to get the relearn procedure to work in HP Tuners? Everytime I try to do it, it will lock up the TCM and not shift into gear and just sit there. I have to pull the TCM fuse to reset it before I can move the car. I'll try to push the relearn button while in drive and then shut it off and wait like you said and see if this keeps it from locking up the TCM. Also I wish the trans cleaning procedure worked in HP tuners as well. I log the trans clean procedure status and I can get it to the right temperature but whenever I go and click on it, it will just say abort. Anyone get this to work?

I had mine set up to only lock up in 8th at 53mph and it made the shifting and trans overall way smoother. I took it back to the stock settings because my converter started having the shudder again and I developed a 2-3 and 4-5 low load shift flare. in theory those 2 problems have nothing to do with not locking the converter but it happened

I am guessing you had a issue prior to tuning the transmission.

King,

Have you been able to tune the trans to help with the lazy launching feeling out the hole. I just got my 10 speed tcm unlocked, and was wondering if there was something i could do to help the trans not be as lazy leaving off the line.

That being said, I honestly do not see it being a huge upgrade but perhaps a noticeable one. The A8 is only getting a bad rap because of the converter shudder issue. That is not a trans problem. The A8 will hold a bunch of power in stock form and it is a completely different animal with tuning. Also the gearing is not much different between the 2 transmissions for the first 4 gears. 5th is the biggest difference where the A10 is 1.56 and the A8 is 1.27...so the A8 will have more RPM drop on the 4-5. So in a nutshell the 2 transmissions are similar to 4th gear, the A10 has basically 1 more useable gear before 1:1 and adds another overdrive.

A10
1st - 4.70
2nd- 2.99
3rd- 2.15
4th- 1.80
5th- 1.52
6th- 1.28
7th- 1
8th-.85
9th-.69
10th-.64

A8
1st- 4.56
2nd- 2.97
3rd- 2.08
4th- 1.69
5th- 1.27
6th- 1
7th- .85
8th- .65
I had a 2016 A8, and now have a 2017 ZL1 with the A10. There is no comparison - With the A10, I don’t think it is just the A10 as much as the software. The A10 never misses finding the exact gear you need, where the A8 often seemed lost.

We were discussing the 10l80 that the 2019+ SS received not the ZL1 which has a 10l90...huge difference. The only benefit to the 10l80 equipped cars is that they have not had any converter shudder issues. Other then that the A8 trans is stronger and 60fts better. No bolt-on 10l80 car have made it out of the 11's yet, there is a list of bolt-on only 8l90 cars in the 10's.
