Adding Factory Navigation...

Hello - has anyone out there added the factory navigation to a vehicle that did not originally have it? If so, please explain how you did it. Thanks!

Yeah, but the factory nav has a bit better integration. I find the Apple Car Play navigation to be a little behind the times.

I doubt anyone has retrofitted. In the last year I don't think I've read about a single one here.It would require a full– tear down, new wiring harness, new GPS antenna and would be prohibitively expensive. In addition to having a dash that it may not ever be tight and rattle free.

Many people upgrade. It can be done here https://www.gm-navigation.com/ I am not positive if they are doing I06 GM interface already or not.

However the Car-play and Android Auto are the opposite of behind the times in comparison. Maps are up to date YEARS ahead of GM. And they update fo-free!

Meh? Better navigation than free google maps / waze? Good luck with that futile endeavor.

GPS > A-GPS

The only downside to built-in factory GPS is map updates.

assisted gps is a additional aspect of gps.

The only thing you need to worry about when venturing out in areas where there is no cell reception is to tell google maps to download the tiles before you leave civilization. gps will still work without cell connection. a-gps simply makes the cold-start time significantly faster.

Yep, but we have tons of dead zones in the Midwest. It's more convenient to have a GPS unit capable of working without the assistance of cellular towers. Plus factory nav integrates with the HUD, so when your turn is approaching you get a little countdown displayed.

The pros for me of the factory nav is the ability to work without cell reception, it integrates with the HUD, and I can leave my phone in my pocket.

not according to the install guide... only requires changing the HMI and an antenna....

I'll be doing it on my 1LE this spring so I'll post about it then...

I was thinking about doing the same with my car but I don't think I'll utilize it enough to fork out 1k plus install for it. I don't even connect my phone and use the app for iPhone. I pretty much stick with Waze only because it tells me where police are located. And let's be honest, with 455hp about 405whp at your right foot, you'll find more use in waze...

Now only if there was a way to connect waze to our factory step up

If I may, it's only a 20 min job to do this upgrade, if you can tune a screw driver you can add it, we have done it for members on here, and vendors too, replace HMI and add Antena that's it.
