For 50 bucks, you can get an android phone and tether it to your iphone.
Then use android auto to put google maps up. Then have like 25 bucks left over to spend on other stuff. EDIT: android phones are still functional over wifi ....even if you take out the sim card and have no cell service to it. Plenty of old Nexus phones out there that can be had for cheap. |

I haven't seen any jailbreak feature that would allow this.

I saw this post yesterday and immediately sent the link to my service rep.
He asked me how i found it, as he said it would have taken him quite a bit of time to find it. He didn't mention it not being available until the 4th. My car is there right now for it.

I don't think you understand what he's asking.

I know I could do it. Just wondering if we can get hands on the update to do it.

Understand perfectly, but the way it's asked ( get Google maps to display on the dash even though I'm using an iPhone) i answered correctly. if he wants the google app to run through apples carplay or whatever apple calls it. would be a different question.

Mirroring on myLink is CarPlay or Android Auto, so what mirroring are you referring to? Using Google Maps through CarPlay is exactly what he is asking about to which there is no solution unless Apple allows the app for CarPlay (which they have no reason to want to).

fyi, mirrorlink and the various other terms you can see out and about are not apple car play and android auto.
These other systems use usb hdmi connections to display your phone's screen but outside of that, have no means of touch screen interaction with the apps. You can see but your controls are limited to voice or touching your phone. Apple Car Play and Android Auto is an api and specification that allows touchscreen feedback among a number of other specifications that make the experience uniform. So it's not in interchangeable term. And those looking for aftermarket systems for other cars will have noticed about a 2-3 hundred dollar difference between head units supporting either systems (carplay / android auto being the more expensive (450-500+). |
