performance chips

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but i'm curious if anyone has a plug and go type performance chip. I've had them before with pretty good luck, hp gains, torque, and even higher rpm capabilities. I have a 23 SS, manual, and saw an ad for rocket chip. Pretty cheap @ about $100, so pretty skeptical. Also smart tune @ $150. Don't want to interface and run a program from a computer, just a plug and go. Like i said, i have had these on prior vehicles with success, and if anyone has one on their Camaro, what do you have and how is it working. Any recommendations appreciated.

Always be skeptical.
You can get more power by running too lean in the open loop modes, but that is a bad thing.

And before someone corrects me...
The open loop modes like hard accel are typically tuned to run rich, i.e. on the safe side, to prevent going overly lean and causing engine damage. So, a "performance chip" can push it closer to stoich, which results in more power at the expense of added risk.

A canned tune performance chip won't do much and is a waste of money. You can find a remote tuner and use a plug in tuner to get generic tunes based on your mods that have helped me in the past. A dyno tune or street tune is at the top of the list.

+1 to get a real tuner, plenty of guys here on the forums with real world experience that can point you in a safer direction.

Search is your friend.
