9" or ZL1 rear or NEW Strange DANA 60

I recently put 3.91 gears and a Tru Trac in and ran 8 passes with my best 10.87@129 and then broke the Tru Trac. I am look for pros and cons of each.

The ZL1 is about 4500 with all the parts and the 9" is gonna be about 6000.i have heard many issues with the 9" such as vibrations and leaks but most come with a warranty,it that could be the older models not sure, the ZL1 is designed by gm for our cars and is a larger gear, but carries no warranty and has no options for an upgraded carrier but it may not need one.

I do plan on taking the car to the 9s eventually but not for awhile. any comments from experience would help.

You broke a TruTrac and youre only in the 10s? (I say ONLY in the sense of parts breaking, I know 10s are awesome!) Maybe Ill reconsider the TruTrac and just go Hammerhead.

8 passes, and about 400 miles I don't dump the clutch either. I'll post the video of the run before it broke.

To break a Tru Trac is off. Besides the Hammerhead, there's one forum member on here that runs 9's using the stock casing with a Tru Trac. In answer to your question however, both are good selections. On one hand, with the 9", some companies offer lifetime warranties, some don't. On the other hand, I can't recall anyone breaking a ZL1 rear end and the casing on those are completely made of iron.

I love my 9". I'm set up with a Gforce 9", strange pro iron pumpkin with a wave trac. Buy from Gforce and get a lifetime warranty.

I also have not had any of the leaking issues that you mentioned.

I am not sure I follow the comment of "breaking a true Trac is off" are you saying it doesn't add up? I don't abuse my car I lift when I shift, it broke on a 1.51 60ft so whether it be 9s or not it was a solid hook and it broke. I was under the same impression as many that it would hold fine and the ring and pinion was going to be my weak link

So no one in this thread has had a vibration issue with the 9"?
What about weight difference between the 2, I would think the ZL1 stuff would be heavier since it is larger and an iron case, but does anyone have any numbers to put on it?

No vibration here. Mine is just as smooth as factory. U do not know the weight difference though. I remember seeing Casey from Gforce post some numbers a while back though. It's not as big of a difference as you might think though.
