I need help regarding my brakes ASAP!
Hello guys, I bought a new set of brake rotors and pads for my 2016 Camaro SS, I thought it came with the stock 4 piston brembos all around but that was not the case. The fronts were upgraded to the 6 piston brakes that the 1LE has with the bigger caliper, rotor ad pads. I already got the brakes and rotors for the stock 4 piston brakes and I was thinking instead of returning those rotors and pads I should keep them and downgrade my front brake setup to the stock 4 piston brembos to keep the costs down. I already found a set of really cheap used calipers and brake fluid harnesses for around $300 bucks and the labor I'll do myself.
What I wanted to ask you guys is. . . what else do I need to make the swap,do I need just the calipers and the harnesses or do I need other parts too. I went and I looked at the stock 4 piston brakes and from the pictures it looks like I just need the harness and caliper. If you guys have any information that'll be awesome, but besides that pretty much it. Thank you! Last edited by WarlockCamaro; 10-02-2020 at 02:36 AM. Reason: Typo |

I would return what you have and get the proper set. Why give up better braking and have to spend 300 on calipers to do it.

I agree. I'd keep the 6 piston brakes.

First concern would be trusting "really cheap used calipers and brake fluid harnesses".
Secondly, you already have the 6 piston rotors and pads. Third, considering that the rotors can be turned at least once, and that brake pad replacement is a relatively infrequent item, is the difference in parts cost really worth all of that? Not to mention that down the road, if you want to sell or trade the car, the six piston brakes will make it more desirable. |

I agree with all replies above. Keep your 6 piston front brakes as they were a very nice upgrade/option to your SS!

Listen if you guys can find these rotors and pads for a fair price then I'll consider returning my rotors and pads. For right now I think swapping over to a cheaper set-up to save me the headache of buying a whole new set that costs way too much for what they are. Also again, what else do I need if I switch over the "cheap brakes" I found are used OEM and just come with the caliper and fluid harness do I need anything else to swap over? Thank you. |

You will want to look to the aftermarket for rotors and pads. The factory rotors are a 2pc design for ultra high performance braking. Aftermarket companies like Powerstop offer 1 pc rotors for your application that are waaay less money than Chevy’s. They make good brake pads for daily drivers too.

If you need to replace the rotors for the GM 6 pistons, you can save money and buy these by DBA. It's the disc replacement only (no rotor hat), so you will need to swap yours. I bought mine for $585 total(both fronts) after a 10% coupon from buybrakes. I also changed my pads all around to Powerstop as others have, part #'s Z26-1405 (6 piston fronts), Z26-1718 for rears. They cut down on brake dust a lot, but from what I've heard give up some performance at the track.

Based on the picture of the six piston brake upgrade on Chevrolet's website, the only thing left is the backing plate. It may not be required to be replaced though. It sounds like you got everything you need. |
