Camaro SS differential

Is the 2016 Camaro SS differential the same as the Cadillac ATS 8.6" unit (with the exception of the ratio)? Limited slip mechanism the same as well?

Thanks!

I would also like to know the size of the differential housing. I'm looking a '17 50th An Ed 2SS and one thing i always do to my cars is install a "rear end girdle" or performance Differential cap as some call it. Mosier makes good one but they don't list an 8.6". The only list 7.5, 8.5, 8.875 and then the 9'' and 12 bolts. I had a TA brand 8.5" on my '98 LS1 Z28 and it really helped sturdy the differential set. I never had to do any repairs to the rear end but had to rebuild the tranny twice over the 4 1/2 years I ran that car.

The girdle cover will not work on the 6th gen. The differential case bolts together down the center. The flange is length wise in the car. They call it a "split case" design. Because of it, there's no way to do a differential main cap girdle without changing the center of the IRS to a totally different set up.

Due to the differential case design, I don't think the kind of girdle you are questioning is necessary.
