Still have 50% left, but I don't do useless burnouts. I also have winter tires from Jan to March.

This may be slighyly off topic but I discussed something like this with my dealer and my car had about 24 miles on it when i purchased it. I have seen how people “test drive” fast cars. i asked them if the joy rides others did had any effect on my warranty. They said no, the warranty starts when I purchased it.

Which brings me to basically the same question... did the test drive/joy rides others did possibly screw up my proper breaking in of the vehicle, reliability?

Like marrying a woman who sleeps around a lot!

My car was a virgin, 2 miles fresh from the factory.

Just look for rubber chunks under the rear wheel well.

Break-in is garbage. I drive all of mine off the lot the way that I'm going to drive it every day, save for I don't redline the thing and beat on it, but I don't do anything close to babying it either.

No car is a virgin. The tech who did the PDI already had 2 miles with your wife, and I guarantee he wasn't easy on her.

It's likely piston rings are seated by the factory so whatever you do isn't going to matter as much as a brand new motor. I think piston ring sealing has improved a lot, with many engines using no apparent oil between oil changes at all. I don't think this is left up to chance and the owner following certain break-in procedures has nothing to do with it.

That said, I think it's best to:

-Let the motor warm up, including oil, before going WOT

-Approach redline slowly, i.e. only go to 4k rpm for a while and gradually allow higher rpms. It's hard to say how much this matters but with a brand new motor you can often feel the internal friction going away as you do the initial break-in.

-No fast starts in 1st gear, mostly for the tranny, clutch and rear diff to wear in properly.
