Fastest setting for fast track

Okay seasoned and fast track guys...please save me some experimenting. I am pretty fast around auto club speedway....1:48.66. That was done in ptm race. Will I be faster in comp.mode, or with everything off, or stick to race mode?

That was a lap with everything perfecto...
New tires, brakes and no traffic for 3 laps or so. Most of my laps now are 1:49.5-1:50.0 or so

I haven't run autoclub yet, someday. But I still run in PTM Race at Willow Springs and I think I only get into TC exiting turn 3 and maybe thru turn 2. It's possible that it is slowing me down a little bit. When I autocross I do so with everything off. It is quicker and easier to get the car to respond how you want it to. FWIW, PTM Race is just the least intrusive TC setting, no other nannys.

I've always been under the impression that comp mode is more intrusive than Race mode.

Yep because of Stabilitrak being on. So the car will defo feel tighter and wont permit wider slip angles.

So here are the results of my experiment. Not really apples to apples comparison, but I got a good idea based on this test.
1. Best time is still PTM race, but it was on new tires, cool day first session, and new brakes. 1:48.66
2. Next best was comp mode: First session, 2nd track day on the tires. 1:49.25
3. All nannies off....on Track mode and pushed for 5 seconds on TC button. 2nd session, tires getting tired and hotter track temps. 1:50.00.
Based on the variables above, and the feel for the car. My bet is all nannies off would be fastest with cool temps, open track, new brakes and new tires. It is also the most fun setting and the car is very manageable and predictable! Give it a shot, you will like it.

I always run in Track mode but don’t push the TC button. You’re giving me confidence to try dry or race1. I’ve been to the track five days. I’ve only been to Sonoma Raceway and worry about those walls.

Homeless....at least go to PTM mode and get into sport1 or sport 2 to begin with. Then move up to PTM race. The other options are for when you are really familiar with a track and the car!!

Not sure if you are aware, but there is a SIGNIFICANT difference between PTM Sport 1 and 2.
The latter does NOT have Stabilitrak and i would not recommend it to a novice driver to go from Track without PTM to Track with PTM Sport 2 as a starting point.

Just my 2 cents.

My other 2 cents is: it is not very responsible or advisable to tell somebody one does not know, or seen how they drive, to just turn everything off and have fun.
GM offers a wide array of very well engineered safety systems, which i have detailed in the sticky. Which one to use and when is absolutely a personal decision. Imo.

Cheers!

I have a few years of experience now, but I still run in Sport 1. In my opinion Race is overrated. Is race mode faster?...Sure, but not by much. Focus on being smooth and you can get very fast without a lot of interference in Sport 1.

I agree as I continue with Sport 1 as my track setting of choice. Sport 2 & Race have Stabilitrak off. Track confidence & knowledge is key.

I always start off in Sport 1 until completely warmed up and comfortable with the track.
Learned my lesson a few years ago jumping to race.

But I would definitely utilize PTM modes as you work your way up.
