Android Auto No Longer Detects S8

Have used AA with my 2SS for years, all worked great. I recently travelled and used my S8 in a couple different cars with AA. Came back home, and my S8 is not detected in neither my 2SS nor my truck (aftermarket JVC head unit). Google has some older threads re developer debugging of USB, but no other obvious fixes.

I have removed and reinstalled Android Auto on my phone.

In Mylink settings, the button for "Add a device" is grayed out, and unit does not seem to acknowledge that a phone is connected (same USB cable I've always used)
Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks
Joel

Looks like I no longer have an option to set USB default to MTP, can't figure out where it went or how to get it back. . .

Check your USB cables?

I spent a couple hours yesterday trying to get the MPT drivers back as a USB default, with no luck, the. Tried an OEM cable, and viola, it worked; . . . For about 19 seconds. Then nada. Plugged my phone into my daughter's car with a brand new USB cable, and no dice. Starting to wonder if it's the USB port in my phone. . . .

Try a factory reset of the phone or wipe tha partition cache on the phone.

My bet is the cable most likely, or possibly the USB jack. Are you sure the new cable you tried was not just a charging cable, vs a data cable? You need the latter.

Thanks, phone and cable had been working for a couple years. I recently traveled and used the phone in three different rental cars, that seemed to have an effect on the software in AA. I removed/reinstalled, but no improvement.
I switched out cabling, activated USB debugging and cleared the cache, but nothing seemed to work.
Yesterday, I started in safe mode, then restarted again in regular mode, and for some reason it worked. not sure why or how, but seems to have re-set itself, and removed from USB debugging state. The phone worked in both my truck and Camaro yesterday, so for the moment I'm happy, even if I don't know why. . .

I appreciate the feedback/suggestions.

Joel

Could have been in USB Developer mode, sometimes that will affect the phone from functioning normally.

Camaro: remove all paired devices (or factory reset option)

Phone: Remove all paired cars in Android Auto. Forget your car's bluetooth name.

RE-pair everything, and you should be golden.

Good to hear! Sometimes these quirky issues popup, but with Android it is real rare that I have had any issues. AA has gotten a lot better with some updates recently, I used to have some quirky issues ever now and then, but it works very well nowadays.
