Twin or single turbo?
I have been back and forth on either supercharging or doing twin/single turbo on my 2010 SS camaro LS3, I have leaned more to doing a turbo set up, my question is, should I twin turbo or single turbo what is more worth it for a lot of fun and power? Which overall is better for me to do?

Most do twins on the car's quicker spooling. If you aren't planning on doing over 1000whp you'll like the low end grunt of a supercharger though. I'd only do twins if i was going for 1000whp plus personally. It's all in preference though.

Thanks! Overall what do you think is best then If we’re talking turbo vs supercharger? I’ve been having such a hard time deciding which one because they both sound like a lot of fun

Street cars are more fun with top mounts. I do more driving under 4,000 rpm than above. So I can feel the TQ much more often.

A turbo is a touch slow off of the line. However, if you can get the boost and hold with a line lock or brake they lift off nicely. I had read that the turbo on the Buick 3.8L V6 doubled the cubic output. If you get a chance to look at the GN turbo you will notice how big it is.

If you have decided turbos are your avenue to fun, cool. My personal opinion, twins is the way to go.. I have a little experience with them... What are your goals...? Do you have a builder tuner in mind, or are you doing this project on your own...? What kind of “fun” are you looking for... ? How much “power” are you looking for...?

Thanks everyone for your input! I believe I’m going to go twin turbo mainly to do something a little different and I would like to end up getting a lot of power later on so I would like to keep my options open on how much I can go, twin turbo it is!

Turbos all the way. Consider a stall as well and there will be no slowing off of the line.

I haven't done any FI on my car but when I do it will be twin turbos. My reasoning is AGP makes a great kit, twins typically spool faster than a single and I want the ability to select power (boost) on fly. Turbos you can cruise around on spring pressure at whatever power level that may be for your build and someone or something comes along that requires way more power and at the turn of a knob or a few presses of a button you have more power.

Realistically for our cars engine size, twins are better suited. It’s hard to get a single turbo that is big enough in the engine bay without major reconfigurations. That’s why there are no cookie cutter kits available. Hurons single kit (which I have and is very nice) is only sized for a T4 frame. You can put 2 T4s under their (or AGPs twin bottom mount kit).
There is a single kit AND turbo in the classifieds for an unbeatable deal right now. |
