2023 Camaro SS Paint Issues

I am looking for some help. What would you do if your new dream car had these issues? GM wants to (refinish) re-paint the panels to correct the issues. Each panel would have to be sanded down to the bare metal (hood, left fender, trunk convertible cover). So then I would have an aftermarket paint job and not a factory OEM paint job. Paint is not like an alternator or broken part they can just be replace with a new part. The aftermarket paint will be for the life of the vehicle. I am looking for advice, speak out and let me hear what you would expect from GM for a new $59k purchase.

IMO these issues are pretty bad, especially the first two. My paint wasn't 100% perfect either, but it had nothing like these runs and trapped chunks of dirt.

If you get a GM approved repaint job performed by a qualified shop, you should be all right, it's a brand new car and the paint hasn't aged much yet.

Every truck I looked at the past few months ie. gm, ford, ram and Nissan had paint issues. My new Titan even has a few small issues but not bad enough to mess with imo. Welcome to 2023 quality.

dust nibs are in almost all new cars. I have like 5 or 6. you can wet sand them and polish them out pretty easy. I took care of a cluster of them i had on the bumper down by the splitter.
The paint drip thats what under the hood at the cowl?

Paint nibs are in the ecoat. They would have sand and spray the whole panel.

I had the same issue on a brand new 2020 Chevy trail boss, in red hot! It even had visible orange peel from 5 feet away.
Found it absolutely atrocious that a new vehicle could come out like this!. Went to the dealer and they looked at me like I was the retard. I have a classic car collection and would never pay for a paint job that had orange peel, or even trim marks like this.

You’re getting white repainted. You’re safe. Hope it works for you.

Those are pretty bad agreed. IMO a GM repaint from another shop is probably better than a factory paint job with the history of GM paint

We had these issues including runs when we bought our gmc canyon. The dealership will send it off to a certified paint facility. Personally I look at it this way if people don't complain and force then to dump money in repairs they will never improve their quality control. Cars are a large investment and no one wants paint issues, or misaligned panels. I had a 21 scat pack charger and just due to a misaligned headlight trim they had to replace the entire from bumper.

I'd take aftermarket paint over factory paint any day as long as its applied by an experienced painter. I recently bought a white Equinox and the bumper colors look like a totally different color from the body. The front and rear bumpers on my ZLE look modeled and splotchy. I repainted the front cover myself and it looks great compared to the factory job and matches better too!

Factory paint is not as durable as aftermarket. I've seen Diamont Clear Coat resist bird crap for weeks without staining. The factory stuff micro pits from bird crap very quickly. As long as the shop is using a good quality clear coat like Diamont, Standox, Glasurite, etc and not some cheap crap, you'll be fine.

The one caveat I would add is some shops are terrible about keeping overspray off the undercarriage, wheels, windows, etc. That would be my main concern.

I think you're being petty of some tiny issues, to pursue some sort of repaint, I don't think that that's called for and I 100% are with you that it's upsetting but I don't agree with how you're going about it. Im not saying youre wrong to be upset about it, at all.

I agree, Those dust nibs can be sanded out and polished in like 5min and you would have a hell of a time ever finding them again. That drip is under the panel and probably looks worse in photos than it is.

A experienced painter using even a medium grade paint will be way better than the factory paint. See if you can get them to paint the whole car!
