(Corvette Dyno) Let's hope the Camaro gets this before it's too late.

The 15% drivetrain loss number seems outdated even for front-engine cars with a torque converter these days - I would say a good mid-engine DCT combo is around 8%. So the 478WHP run translates to just under 520HP. Seems like the dyno is reading a bit high or something.
The other runs are harder to explain - except maybe they weren't taking the gear ratios into account correctly...

Dynos can be set to or read all over the place, that run where they got 478 or whatever is probably pretty close to a real world number on a high reading dyno.

They explain that SAE test is gradual and runs hot, you get more power with a quicker dyno run.
However, I was pretty sure the hp would be 500+ at the wheels, it still takes hp to do sub 3s 0-60 and low 11s in the 1/4.

The whole article addresses everyone's comments so far(as DaveC knows)
Personally, Im hoping the old GM way of underrating V8s is back(like the 4th gen Z28, original 69 ZL1, the modern LSA) I know what we need is the C8 run on a Dyno back to back with an established car, which Hennessey will probably do or provide comparable data.

GM has spent so much time and effort with SAE to develop the industry standard I don’t see them walking away from that.
What posible benefit would GM have for announcing 495 when it’s actually 520 or more? I can’t think of anything.

Dynos are so different one from the other that the real tell tale is the cars 0-60, 1/4 mile and 122 mph.

Yep all it takes is some simple math to be able to figure out how much power the car is making. Just need to know the track, the day, the 1/4 time and MPH and what the C8 weighed and most a math formula and you can figure out close to what HP is needed to run the time and MPH. I think with anything else, it is a numbers game. Some numbers are needed to make the Corp bean counters and or Corp Atty happy, some are needed to make the EPA, NHTSA, and the .Gov happy, others are needed to make the insurance institute happy and lastly the customers. Super fine line the manufacture has to walk to make everyone happy.

The numbers can’t be real, and staff at Motor Trend knows something is wrong with the results. They have requested other C8s to test ASAP.

Didn't the same authors do this with the new Supra and get the same style of high number?

There's no way the LT2 is making as much horsepower as the LT4.
The issue I can see with the LT2 going in the SS is the intake manifold looks really tall. I'm not sure it can fit with the same setup. Maybe the dry sump will allow them to push it down far enough in the bay to clear the hood.
