Sorry to hear, hopefully gets resolved quickly. I’ve only seen a few with mid 2018 build dates. How did it happen?

Not the way that we wanted the day to end.

Made a pull and when I came to a stop sign, dropped it into neutral and saw it down around 20psi. Babied to limp it home and when I came to another stop sign it dropped to zero in neutral and warning light popped on.

Aug 2020 - pump failed and was replaced under warranty @ 22,000 miles

Feb 2022 - 28,000 miles, still going strong.

Driven year round. Waxers.. look away

If that was my car I’d have chest pain. I don’t take mine out when there’s a possibility of rain.

Anyone know when in 2018 it was resolved? My car was built 4/18. Vin 0168739. Oh and mine is a 1SS 1LE LT1, not a LT4 ZL1. I assume those are in this group too.

My 2018 build date is 11/17. I'm at 16k and so far all good, knock on wood. I've put 12k of the 16k on the car in 7 months so if/when it does show it's head it'll be under warranty! But I hope it never does

No worries, it gets occasionally washed.

Admittedly I don't see the logic of driving a ZL1 in salt/snow/rain - it's not any fun (potentially dangerous) and trashes the car (especially the paint). In Michigan we called it a "salt ride" or daily beater, but everybody needs one. In my case it's a 2014 V6 Accord I picked up for $9k with 50k miles and it's been faultless.

Side note - shorter trips on cold oil probably contributes to oil pump failure in these cars. Its just a hypothesis but I bet the evidence would back it up. I baby my car until the oil is fully warmed up, which takes longer than the coolant

Oil temp on mine was 210* when it failed. Had been driving it for a couple hours.
Possibly because I made a pull up a little bit of a grade, not sure. Shortly after it had the symptoms I've read about. Kinda erratic oil pressure, idling at about 20psi, pull from a stop and pressure would jump up really quick to 75-80psi, then normalize to 40.
Katech pump had already been ordered about a week before this happened ironically.

Yea doubt that mine failed in the middle of a Texas summer where it was still 80° at night. I'm leaning more towards improper material treatment kind of like the valve spring issue that popped up on the 2019.

To clarify, my theory is owners of failed pumps are hard on the gas when the oil is still cold (after start up), contributing to stress fractures in the cheap factory gear. The oil temp when it actually fails is not the issue. Improper material or tempering may also be a contributor

I know this is the dry sump video but they show the update
