I know this is not necessarily the right place to post this but I figure many of you came from gen5 Camaro's and C6's. Many people on the Corvette forum say that it's very foolish to take an LS3 anywhere near a racetrack without a proper dry sump setup. How true is this? Would running a thicker oil, with a baffled oil pan, an oil cooler, accusump and keeping a close eye on oil pressures not be sufficient for the occasional HPDE? I've seen a few videos of C6's literally blowing up on track and it's pretty scary...

This is for a project car that will have an LS3 crate engine running on MoTeC ecu. Car will weigh 3000 lbs with me in it. Car will be used about 70% street, 20% autoX, and 10% track (Laguna and Buttonwillow). Car will have no aero and will not be running tires with more grip than a DOT rcomp like NT01's or R888R's. 275 square will probably be the most tire I'll be able to fit. It's hard to believe with this setup that I'll be able to surpass or even match Corvette levels of grip. I would think I'd see sustained lateral G's slightly over 1G. Maybe 1.2-1.4 G's if I really got it dialed in. I would think running Buttonwillow clockwise I'd be fine as sustained long lefthand turns seem to be the big issue, more worried about running Laguna.

As this will mostly be a street car for now I really don't want to give up AC. Eventually when Commufornia decides they will no longer let me drive on the street then the car will be caged and trailered to and and from the track. At that point I'd add dry sump, fuel cell, fire suppression, aero, etc...

Car is a 2016 BRZ, so it shouldn't be due for a smog till 2022. Then I'm going to try my luck with my dealers plate. Please save the just go buy a Vette comments.

There's many better places for this than in the Camaro 6 > ZL1 (LT4) section.

Go on Camaro5, there's lots of wet sump LS3 owners there.

LS1tech is another good site.

Corvette Forum has LS3 areas.

Five years, over 10,000 miles, hundreds of autocross runs, and at least 20 track days. Wet sump, Mast Motorsports pan, 440 rwhp cam only LS3.

Ls3 is pretty stout. Doubt you’ll have much problems with anything under 600hp

If it were me and you plan to go over 1G on a race track I'd go dry sump if you can make it fit. Other wise the LS3 is very sturdy and one of the best swap engines on the planet with the 8 quart sump if it fits. Mecum Pro Touring auction prices agree with that opinion.

Once you get it running be sure to drag race it. That project sounds like a lot of fun. The BRZ is a great platform for a big $$ build.

Thanks for your interest in the build! ft86 club has a swap section on the forum you can check out. Yeah, I keep going back and forth on the dry sump vs AC, I'll have to make a decision here pretty soon. Although I do like the look of the car you posted mine will remain pretty stock looking from the outside, I like the sleeper look. I'm kind of cheating and sent the car to be built by these guys in Maryland https://www.pureautomotiveperformance.com/ They have more experience than anyone when it comes to swapping these cars. If you like drag you should check out their 2J powered frs that just ran a 7.5 in the 1/4, it's the fastest one in the world.

I'm hoping to build another more simple project with a friend this summer. I'd like to build an Exocet budget version of the Ariel Nomad to run all the dirt fire roads out here. Something like this http://exomotive.com/exocet/off-road/

Weren't the LS3s in the CTSCC GS Camaros from 10-13 wet sump?
