Roto -Fab Wet or Dry Element

Hi All , I've been to the Roto -Fab web site to see what they recommend, Wet or Dry Element.
They typically recommend the wet , but I'm leaning towards the Dry . For those of you who run a Roto -Fab , I'm just curious to here mor wet or Dry . Thanks for your response.

Wet because it's easier to clean and lasts forever. Once those dry filters get dirty, they never really come clean like new. wet can always be cleaned to look new.

I bought dry then switched to wet, Rotofab indicated the wet has a higher flow rate than dry.

The wet lasts longer since you can clean it, but be advised, it takes a bit of work if you by the clean/oil kit.

The kit comes with a spray that you use to clean the filter. That's the easy part. Now you have to re-oil the filter.
For that there's a container of oil and a syringe for applying the oil.
You have to check the instructions to see just how much oil is appropriate for your particular filter.
You then load the syringe with the oil, and carefully apply the oil using the syringe to each and every rib of the filter, making sure to coat the filter with only and just the amount of oil specified.

Applying the oil is easy, it's just a tedious process as you carefully dribble the oil onto each rib, one by one.

So, re-oiling and cleaning thew filter is easy, it's just tedious and time consuming.

Just get a comfortable chair in the warm sunshine with a small stand to sit your beer on and have at it.

I clean/oil mine every two years just to be safe, and that's putting maybe 3,000 miles per year on the car.

If you're lazy, just buy a new dry filter and change it in just a few min, but knowing you'll have to buy a new one whenever the old one gets dirty.

Your choice.

Unless you plan on putting 100k miles on your car than the washing and reusing benefit of wet is moot. I have never cared for how a wet filter looks after washing and reoiling. I would simply spend the 50.00 and buy a new filter when it starts to look shitty...big deal. The dry filter is considered the race filter and flows a little more air. At least that is what they claimed several years ago when this was a hot topic. Both filters were put on a flow bench and the dry was a little better. Not a huge difference either way...buy whatever looks best to you.

I have the oiled filter too and haven’t cleaned it yet. I installed it in 2020 and its still clean and as King LT1 replied I plan to buy a new one when this one looks crappy.

K&N makes a cleaner kit with an aerosol oil instead of the syringe mess. I have used it several times over the years. Works well. Here's a link:

Need to re-read rotofab’s recommendation. “We typically recommend the oiled filter for performance and the dry for ease of maintenance” - e.g. the oiled filter flows more. I agree with others - 12K miles per year, 1K miles on track and you’ll need to re-oil annually. Not a big deal and I’ve been doing it for 14 years. Maybe I’ve just gotten good at it but my re-oils look as good as new. I also use aFe blue aerosol + cleaner $20. Just a personal preference.

Same here. Its not rocket science to clean a wet filter.

I am in your camp sir, Dry.

If I get to the point of looking to "enjoy" spending a Saturday cleaning and oiling cotton to maybe gain some "ant lung air flow", then I may change my mind.

Thanks for that. I didn't know about the spray oil alternatives.

Learn something new every day.
No more darn syringes for me. Beer yes, syringe no.
