My guess is the only reliable way you’ll get wireless CarPlay to work is to buy the new radio module (2021) when available and swap out your older one. I know people swap them to upgrade to the newer system and to get the built in navigation. Assuming the wireless CarPlay feature is linked to the infotainment 3 control module under the passenger dash it could be a simple (albeit expensive) upgrade.

You need to get programming from someone that can write your vin into the new module. This needs to be a custom deal because gm systems will only allow your vin to be coupled with your original setup

I bought the carlinkit module mentioned earlier in this thread, it works perfectly in my 2016 camaro but needs to be plugged in after I start the engine in my 2017 Denali.

Giant thread about it here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads...193978/page-33

I can only vouch for it in a 2016 camaro ss with nav

The issue with this I think is that the only upgrade possible for the infotainment is for the IO5 to IO6 which is going from 8" non-nav to 8" nav. At the moment there's no way to get IOB (7" radio) to either IO5 or IO6 and there's also no way to get the newer systems in the 2019+ (IOR/IOS/IOT - 7"/8" non-nav/8" nav).

So for the 2021 having wireless CarPlay I think it would be apart of the infotainment system which would suck as either no one will be able to get new module to work on older models or it would take a very long time as no one has been able to do even the older modules yet. Gen5DIY imo would be the one to do it as they are the ones that offer the IO5 to IO6 currently but there hasn't been any update on the IOB to IO5/IO6 that they were working on a few years back.

This all could go out the window though if the wireless aspect of CarPlay is through another module like the USB's in the center console. If that happens then I think it could be a simple switch with plug and play, I replaced my USB module for another when mine was burnt a while back and I had no issues with CarPlay with it. Guess we'll find out whenever the 2021's ship out and someone is able to order the part.

I have sent to them a direct email asking for compatibility and they confirmed this dongle is 100% working on 2016-2020 Camaro.

Who will be the first to try it?

See you!!,

I will just keep plugging my phone in, hell I'm not that lazy yet, because it's not worth $160 to me.

Keep in mind that any additional recharge cycles reduce the battery life of your phone...there is a finite number before max battery health drops from 100%.

Using the battery when USB is readily available is like using cellular data when wifi is available.

So are there any experiences now with Carplay2Air and Carlinkit with our Camaros? Maybe also on the newer ones? 2018+?

Thank you

The way the car powers up doesn’t let the thing work correctly. It might work in other brands but tried it in four different GMs and it doesn’t work right. It only works right if you don’t start the engine. Useless
