Well, I ended up using a large flat headed screwdriver wrapped in a towel and was able to get the pegs to pop out. That was a PITA, but I swapped out the filter which, at almost a year old, looked a bit dirty. For ease of access, I actually prefer the set up in the 5th gen as opposed to this.

What leather scent product do you use?

Thank you for this write up! My used 2016 Camaro was previously smoked in and I am definitely doing this! It may help a little. I am also going to try the open bags of coffee beans trick to absorb the remaining scents. I have never tried it, but I heard it works.

K&N reuseable cabin air filter

K&N has just introduced a wash able cabin air filter. I suppose it was just a matter of time before this came about. A new filter is pretty pricey on most cars.

Just grabbed one of these for my wife's equinox last week from amazon. It smells nice now!

Good deal! I had to change mine in my SRX recently, OMG they are like gold, checked every store and everywhere online for the AC Delco one, Fram and K&N and a bunch of other name brands that were not so well know, ended up getting a STP one in Autozone for $11, better than the stock Delco one! Bought a engine air filter from STP as well for $20, and again better than stock. So for both spent $30'ish and would have spend over $100 for stock or the other brands, insane!

When he says considerable force he means it. I used a long flat head screwdriver. I pulled the drivers side of the glove box out first and pried the passenger side inward with the screwdriver. I had to have someone tell me I was a bitch too. Then it came out and all was well.

Ya. Did this today. Replaced with a Fram Fresh Breeze CF11966.
What a pain in the ass. Used a 24mm combo wrench to get leverage to bend the posts out.
It's a joke really. Must be some sort of trick to it.......
My filter not quite 14 months old. 10,000Miles. Dirty enough I am glad I did it. (Filter is white when new)
Fram doesn't have as many folds/creases - this should improve my CFM and give my HVAC another 3hp.....

Yes I quoted my own post....

You know. I think that the Fram filter actually reduces airflow.
Since I installed it, I noticed I have the fan turned up a little higher now to get the same flow from the vents. Generally had speed set at 1/2 way for general use. Now It is 3/4 or a little more.

Maybe this Arm&Hammer filter material does a good job keeping odors out.....but it takes a little more to get the air through.

I will wait until I need the A/C. See if it impedes the flow that will keep me cool. If so I will take it out.

more folds = larger surface area for air to get through the filter and also to trap airborne contaminants.... more surface area is especially important as the filter gets dirty it will become even more restrictive.

Holy crap you guys weren't kidding. Last night i went to remove the filter and spray it with some new car scent. I got the retaining cord off no problem obviously, then couldn't get the glove box out for the life of me and also couldn't shut it. Being a bigger guy (6'6 265) I figured I would have no issue squeezing the box to get it out.....30 min, several swear words, and two large flat head screw drivers later after frantically googling and finding this post I finally gained access to the filter. what a pain in the butt.

They're what I always use, and are definitely a premium filter vs. the OEM and other various generics.
