Question Offered $43k for a New 2017 2SS?

Hey guys, so I'm wasn't too excited about the 2019 reveal so I thought I'd grab a 2016-2018 before they're all snatched up.

I found a new 2017 2SS with a $50k MSRP - magnaride, exhaust, low gloss wheels, 8 speed auto with several other minor options.

The dealer started me with the invoice price of $48k, brought it down $3.5k with my GM employee discount to $44.5k and added another GM incentive of $1.5k. I also ordered a couple GM accessories (which they said would throw in for free because this car is a 2017), so now we're at $43k for a new 2017 2SS before tax.

I want to counteroffer $38k out the door. Am I lowballing them too hard or would this be a good starting point to negotiate?

It's still 1 MY behind the current car, and it'll quickly be 2. Chances are if they're still holding onto it, they're not gonna budge much.

Dealers in SoCal are quoting 44K for a 2SS with Magnetic Ride, Exhaust, etc, and MSRP of 51K. This is before any type of supplier/education discount.

Wow. That's $7k off just purely from the dealer.

Of the discounts in my current quote, $6k of it are from GM, and only $1k is from the dealer.

Maybe I should counteroffer with $37k?

Doesn't hurt to try . . .

I wouldn't worry about hurting their feelings.

Their job is to get your money. Your job is to hang on to as much as you can.

Did you use a GM employee discount?

Just got a couple of quotes for 2018 2SS with mag ride sunroof automatic, NEW. Without much negotiating and bargaining, already have them down to 40K on 49000$ cars. GM supplier discount.

GM also took away the $2000 rebate that I would have qualified for I think, owing an infiniti or Hyundai. So I bet you can get 10K MSRP normally on a 50K car, but its now summer, so you will have to pay to play.

Its a numbers game, have to message 15 dealers to get 2 that responded with decent pricing.

I'd rather do a 1SS but seems no one orders Mag ride on 1SS lol. Else, it would be 35-36K new with sunroof and auto.

I think I'll wait till October unless I find a decent deal on a used low mileage one with MRC and auto.

EDIT: I wouldnt touch a 2017 at this time, seems 2018s have had few to no issues on the A8 automatic transmission. So its 2018 or 2019 for me.

Are you emailing these dealerships or over the phone? I tried to talk with 3 in my area and they all just responded saying I would have to come in as they don't discuss pricing over phone and email.

I emailed 15, got 2 fair (my opinion ) responses. About 5 asked stupid questions instead, answers that I had already provided in my first email. I'll probably email them again. The rest I didn't entertain.

You have to get your email to the internet sales person. Seems they let regular floor sales folk answer emails too.

Your area sounds tough. Expand your search. I'm going out to 500 miles in the next couple of weeks. Fly there and drive home.

Walk away. One thing I learned from dealing with these "dealerships", if they aren't willing to negotiate on the phone, then there's no point in going in. They just want to get you in the door to see if they can close on you.

I called ahead to a dealership that had a 2018 white 1SS I wanted. They advertised 33.5k(rebates, incentives and whatever else they can throw at it to artificially deflate the price) , I asked if they can do 36k out the door. I get " I can't promise that but if you come in I can promise you'll get a great deal".

Of course I went in, 2 1/2 hour drive from my house in bumper to bumper traffic, by the time I got there it was dark out. I go straight to negotiations because I don't want to waste my time.

Too late. He brought up the total....42k. I damn near laughed at him. Told him he wasted my and his time. Left them a similar review online and moved on.

Agreed, if they won't negotiate online, I'm done and move on
I tell them upfront if I come in it's to inspect and sign, I'm not sitting at anyone's desk for 2 hours
You'll find dealers that will work via email, and those will give you the best experience over all
