Lucky lol, I'm at 5300km / 3300 miles and it's going to the dealer Monday over a potentially bad lifter, I get a knocking sound when starting cold, goes away once warm. Worried about engine damage.

This needs to be made a National Poll for thousands of owners to get an accurate report on the engines.

2018 Camaro SS 1LE LT1 Seized
My 1LE has been an absolute joy. Ran perfect, not a squeak, rattle, paint defect, ...perfect car. I track it and followed the track supplement materials religiously: break in RPM, all fluid changes, track alignment, removed water deflectors, etc. I started with the 0-30W DEXOS 1 Mobil 1 for street. Then used 15-50W Mobil 1 on track (per supplement). Drained it after each HPDE/track day. When the the 0-40W DEXOS 2 became available I used it on the street, but drained it after every HPDE/track day (basically keeping with the 4 hour track usage spec). My second HPDE with DEXOS 2 was hot - 90s. As usual on hot days PDR showed oil temps hitting 270, but not unusual for it. Second day, took a student's girlfriend out for a session (I'm an instructor and backed off accordingly). As usual, car ran perfect. Coming down pit entrance, went to downshift from 4th to 2nd at about 20 mph pushed the clutch in, heard a few clatters, and it quit. Totally seized! The bottom end destroyed itself - dealer says full of metal but at the dipstick the oil was clean, no smell, and I felt no metal. My theory is most likely a thrust bearing failure since all was good until I pushed the clutch in. Maybe just a failed main bearing though. No drama, no rods on poking through, no smoke, just completely frozen. PDR did show and oil temp of 311 whoa!!! during my in lap, so it was going. Surprisingly, never saw a warning or hit limp mode.
So, that's my story for this archive. I believe LT1 failures are rare (I'm at the NCM track a lot) and GM has a new engine on the way. The car only had 5800 miles, but many track days (what I bought it for). I also run an LS3 in an old 944 Turbo on track. I religiously use Mobil 1 15-50W and drain it every event. Never had a problem with my LS3 and thousands of track miles, so I'll probably go back to DEXOS 2 0-40W for street, 15-50W for track. Something about that 0W water always bothered me LOL (I'm a mechanical engineer, with a master's in fluid mechanics so I know a little about lubrication). FWIW - like I said, I love my 1LE. It's a great car - but there are clearly a few LT1 failures. Too bad mine was one - never even had a lawnmower engine fail in my whole life before LOL |

I experienced no issues with my 2018 Camaro SS (M6), which I recently traded-in with 16,000 miles. I hope my new vehicle, a 2019 Camaro SS 1LE, is also trouble-free.

Full engine replacement at 1500 miles. Main bearing or rod bearing failure causing catastrophic failure thru the entire engine. GM replaced the engine with a new one, gave the car back to me while waiting for my second order to be built and shipped, and no issues. The car was purchased back and replaced with a new car(Had multiple electrical issues along with the blown motor). I have put about 11000 miles on the replacement car since March, and no issues. So, 1 out of 3 was a bad motor. Hopefully it stays that way.

My car has been in service for 45 days with a bad knocking sound. Service does not know what the problem is. GM Customer Service has been called. The thread about this is in the Issues subforum. 53,000 miles.

Easy, because a small portion does not represent the majority. That is the problem with polls, it only gives you an idea of what may or may not be going on. They are hardly 100% accurate and I doubt they would even be 50% accurate. This is a simple poll and deals with a specific topic so it has a possibility of kinda being accurate BUT I doubt that the percentages are this high for engine replacements when talking on the entire population.

I voted "Minor issues" due to a problem with the serpentine belt tensioner that has started leaking (due to a design flaw). It probably isn't quite fair as the engine itself is performing with no issues what-so-ever.

I don't know if my issue is minor or major but mine backfires at full throttle when it shifts. Very loud bang. Has done it since it was new and the daler could not find the problem or any codes. 9,000 miles on it so who knows what will happen. I don't do a lot of full throttle runs but most of the time it does it.
