And yes, you would think the gap would be bigger, especially with that price gap |

Yeah speaking of price gap. I was shocked today when I went onto auto trader to look at the price of the GT500s. Holy ****. No kidding, one place up here had a track pack for 100 grand more than what I paid out the door. 100 GRAND.
A few others were 80 grand more. I’m up in Canada and payed a lot less than most due to not having to pay tax. But holy crap, the track pack GT500s are 80-100 grand more WITHOUT taxes. Gimme a break. That’s robbery. |

Don’t get me wrong I like the GT500s and they are definitely cool vehicles but......
Even the regular GT500s were about 50 grand more. Like you gotta be kidding me. |

It does not appear they are selling very well.

See, I’m pretty sure in the province I live in, there is a law against charging over msrp. I could be wrong but for some reason I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere. Now, if a used car company buys it, puts a few miles on it, then they can sell it over MSRP obviously. But the one car only had 10.9kms and it was being sold by a Ford dealer, and if I’m correct about charging over MSRP in this province, then Jesus that’s a ton of money for this car. Double the cost of my car and we haven’t dealt with the taxes yet.
Now again, maybe somebody from Ontario will correct me and I’m wrong. But, if I’m not, the pricing of this car isn’t justified in my eyes. OR, the ZLEs and ZL1s are just that much of a screaming deal for a very impressive car. I guess you can look at it both ways. |

That's the reason Ford won't allow it. The Base GT500 wouldn't have enough of an advantage over the ZL1. So we'll likely never see that race.

I don't think there are any laws against selling a vehicle at a specific price even if it is over MSRP. The dealership technically owns the vehicle. So it is theirs to sell.

I attended an event in September at Roebling Road Raceway with a ZLE, a ZL1 (on SC3 non R), and a base GT500. Three stock cars on track at the same time, 3 different drivers. ZL1 was 1.5 seconds behind ZLE, GT500 was 4-5 seconds behind ZL1. Just a data point, FWIW....

The Grand Sport has better aero, tires, and a suspension thats shared with the Z06 so it should be faster than the Z51 with its optimized but still base Stingray setup.

What failures are they having? When I had my 2012 Mustang GT I didn't put a tune on it because people who were tuning, even using the ones you buy from American Muscle.com were having cylinder number 8 destructing. Why does Ford have all these engine and transmission issues. Mustangs also had a big issue with MT82. |

True, though I would say real world weights have shown the gt500 isn't quite the pig everyone made it out to be at first. From what I have seen, usually lighter than Fords numbers.

We put both cars on the scales while we were at the track. My ZLE was 3830 and the GT500 was about 4200. Both with just over half tank of fuel, no drivers.
