I designed my own tow hook

Been tracking my car lately, so I need a tow hook. Didn't like how much the stock tow hook weighs and didn't like what was available on the market. So, I opened up SolidWorks and designed my own. Had it machined and anodized by shops I regularly use for work stuff. Went with 7075-T6 Aluminum for the eye and shaft and high strength steel threaded rod for the threads. I'm pretty happy with the results. This tow hook is about 40% lighter than the stock one but plenty strong. What do you think?

Beautiful design and great workmanship . Do you have a picture of the front with the tow hook installed by any chance?

Looks killer. I'd love to have one with a blue loop. What is your profession?

Well... this was a "one off" purchase from high end shops (with no consideration for cost reduction - the hook is 5-axis billet CNC work of high strength aluminum alloy) so I spent about ~$900 for two hook assemblies...

The price of prototyping

With a buy of about 10 to 20 pieces that price would go down by about 50% (and even more so if I went to lower cost suppliers) but I doubt I could move that many to de-risk the investment. Not sure I want to be in the business of tow hooks!

Come to think if it, that might have been a better color to go with. Hmm...
My profession is mechanical engineering.
