Thanks for all the good input guys. I owned several mustangs in the past (a 2011 5.0 6pseed and a 2000 5-speed GT) as well as an Fbody LS1 6 speed Camaro.
At this point I am leaning towards the Camaro - my major concern is the visbility. I have driven both cars back-to-back, and I am torn on which to get. Ultimately this car will be a weekend cruiser. Now, should I be looking to upgrade to a 1SS for an additional $2700 over the LT1? I see no real benefits other than additional coolers, wider rear wheels, nicer (subjective) front facia, better instrument cluster. Are there any "must have" options you guys would consider? Active exhaust? 8" screen / bose? Recaros maybe? |

As for me, I bought the 2SS back then because it had all of these, and if the 1LE package came with an automatic trans back in 2018, I would've added that as well. It's been great to see the car grow in power in discrete steps (rather than just getting a ZL1 and leaving it stock)—this is my forever Camaro.

If I was to custom order a LT1 I would get the recaros and active exhaust. The stock seats are average and scream "rental car". The 7in screen is fine for me. I'm coming from an 2008 BMW with no screen so it seems very modern. The LT1 is a stripper performance model so getting too many options defeats the purpose of the car..which is cheap performance in my opinion. |

Looks are about even to me. Comparing the standard M6 Mustang against the base LT1 M6:
If you order get NPP, The Recaros, and the Bose if you can afford those. I also am a sunroof fan in the Camaro as it makes the interior less confining. You can look at the build threads to find out what people are doing to thier LT1s.

I had a focus st for 4 yrs and 94k miles and loved it but I don't like mustangs. The gen 6 is a great car imo. Can't imagine being torn between a mustang and a Camaro

[QUOTE=BlaqWhole;11102160]Ok so I am probably the only one who thinks the M6 trans in the GT is not that bad at all. I had a 15 GT Premium with 401a option package and M6 trans.
I agree with you I have a 2018 GT premium and I love the 6-speed. It's a smooth shifting transmission the longer gear ratios are good for daily driving and you can spin the tires at a hundred kilometers an hour when you shift which is 60 miles. I've heard of some guys having issues but most don't and I think most guys enjoy it. As far as the Mustang or the Camaro. I didn't really have any visibility problems in my Camaro when I had it you just have to adjust the review and the side mirrors properly. That's always been the way though I had to do that in my 2002 z28 as well As far as a base GT goes the base stereo really looks terrible in my opinion besides that the car is nice. I would look for a used premium over a new base Test drive them both they're both awesome cars get whatever one you like Don't forget to test drive a challenger while you're at it these are after all the last days of muscle cars might as well take your time and enjoy your purchase |

I tried both on the same weekend. Fortunately I have a friend who let me drive his PP2 Mustang and it's a great car and I have favored Mustangs in the past. Went to where the Camaro was the next day. I would recommend this method, and it's easy to rent a base GT in most larger population areas, haven't seen a rentable Camaro yet in my travels...

I sold my LT1.
Great car but wasn't enough for me. 2SS or ZL1 is next. Get the tech pkg if you go with the LT1. Mine had it and its a great stock audio system. Just don't overdrive the lows. I also got over the visibility and small greenhouse in about 15-20 minutes |

Sports car manual trans should feel on the firmer side, and there should be a mechanical feel to get into each gear to give you the satisfaction of shifting. Mustang's Getrag just isn't nearly as satisfying to use for a sports car. Mustang's stock shift throw is also a little long, though I don't think it's the fairest comparison to my SS 1LE (which has a shorter shifter than standard SS IIRC).

I have to be honest, I wouldn't bother using interior space as a deciding factor on either of these cars. It's like trying to figure out what STD clinic is the best for finding a date. If you want interior space, might as well get a Charger, which means you'll be giving up on the handling (and instead of an STD clinic for a date, you're at a fat camp looking for a date).
Both cars (the Camaro and the Mustang) are pretty closely matched, but it will ultimately depend on what you want. For me, I want a 6-speed manual, and if the Mustang's is garbage then that rules the Mustang out for me. Oh and my current vehicle is a Chevy SS sedan, which has great room for 4 and does handle better than the Charger. But, it's not a manual. What I have learned about having a great car that has plenty of room for passengers is that you almost always get elected to drive to lunch, and if you have disgusting co-workers like I do, you either let them act like pigs in your car, or you become "that guy" and make people wash their hands before they get into your car after lunch. For the record, I became the latter after finding finger prints all over the back seat after going to Buffalo Wild Wings on the previous day. With the Camaro or the Mustang, you don't have to apologize for not driving at lunch, as not many people will want to sit in the back seat of either car. Both cars are driver-centric, which is fine unless you're starting a family. Last point, make sure you get exactly what you want (manual, exotic V8 sound, etc.) as these cars' days are numbered. Chevy is expecting to pull the plug (or is it add the plug) on the Camaro in the next few years. I can't imagine that Ford will be ok with Chevy's EV Camaro besting the Mustang's performance numbers for long, so the Mustang will most likely go EV shortly after the Camaro, which is why I've already ordered my manual transmission Camaro. I'm getting it just how I'd want it to be optioned figuring this is the last high performance IC vehicle I'll ever own. So I'm ordering it the way I'd want it. Just something to keep in mind. |
