I wonder what is more expensive, building microchips in the US or building cars you can't sell because of the microchip shortage?

Probably seemed like a good idea at the time to close the plant to save money. Sheesh, they'll send stuff to China just to save a fraction of a penny instead of making it here.

The money they are not realizing on chip-less, unsellable vehicles should make them reconsider making the chips locally.

It's really hard to real-world test against a vehicle that isn't available yet. I'm sure they are aware of the next-gen Ranger and are using the potential specs as additional benchmark data.
