2022 ZL1 1LE production update (no PDR's)

Need your quick input - My dealer called today to update me on my ZLE order and reports Chevrolet will build only 2 Camaro ZL1 1LE's in the foreseeable future. Specifically, two 2022 ZLE's are scheduled to be built the last week December 2021 EXCEPT the performance data recorder (PDR) which I spec'd is not available. My order has one of the those two allocations. I have 12 hours from now to confirm I'll accept the car without the PDR option. No info. on when or if the PDR will be available in 2022. The PDR was just a tech toy for me since I don't plan to track the car regularly but thought it would be cool. Does this option matter?

The PDR is cool but can get similar function from a GoPro. If you want the car sooner rather than later, drop the PDR and don’t think about it again, especially if you don’t plan to track regularly. The coolest part of the PDR is the integrated data overly. The camera and sound are actually pretty crappy.

The PDR does so much more than an integrated overlay video. It opens a pathway to the Cosworth Toolbox that gives a ton of vehicle data and lap feedback.

If you're not planning on tracking the car then why even consider the PDR?

I use mine daily as a dash cam but I do also track my car throughout the year so I do get use or off it.

PDR does get rid of the front collision warning thing.

The PDR is just about worthless on the track too. Any serious track driver will have an AiM data logger setup or something along those lines. The built in PDR is just a gimmicky waste of weight.

I use it on track and would miss it if I didn’t have it. If you won’t track it don’t worry about it.

Exactly. A "serious" track person looking to set records doesn't want this...... and don't need the extra weight it adds.... neither are the wheels any good for the track so ditch those and get lighter wheels..... such the seats too because they add a lot of weight with the heating and cooling feature..... take the rear seats out too because why even have those heavy things!

But us who are out there to have fun love using this.

I use it on track, for me worth the money.

For others, spending $1,000 on a Garmin Catalyst seems to be the ticket.

Not even about setting records. If you're serious about improving your driving skills, the data provided by the PDR is an absolute joke. Not only that, it only logs 5x a second. That's half of what a true data logger provides. In a tight chicane, 5x a second doesn't give you a clear picture of where you're losing time.

And after 5-6 track days, it only makes sense to pick up a spare set of wheels (even if they're another stock set) just so you can have slicks or DOT slicks on the spare set.

Like I said. A "serious" track person doesn't like the PDR even though you could use Cosworth to see what has been recorded.....and learn enough from that......

And as I mentioned, us that aren't track rats enjoy using the PDR and get our money's worth out of it and learn enough from that to understand where we can be faster.

Seems asinine buying a 1LE if you're not going to seriously track it, but you do you.

I'm a pretty serious track person, I set fast lap times, and I like the PDR. I know the video quality and other features are way behind dedicated track systems, but it makes it very easy to record track sessions with a single push of a button and I don't have to worry about setting up 3rd party stuff, turning it on, wiring hanging in car, etc.

That being said, I'm also not serious enough to put in a roll cage, seats, harness, extinguisher etc., I don't participate in real races only HPDE, I don't trailer my car and don't even wear a racing suit, so maybe that disqualifies me as "serious"

Small thing to miss easily replaced with better and get your car. I’m not sensing many more of these things will be coming off the line in the future Chip shortage aside.

I have a ZLE on order. I had the PDR on it “because”. If I was offered the chance to get the car without or wait who knows how long I would get it without.
