Infotainment screen is dim
My 2019 Camaro convertible started having issues with the infotainment screen just before 11000 miles. The lettering on the screen is now partially filled in and partially blank. The regular display is legible still but maps are very hard to read. Adjusting the dimmer wheel has no effect on this screen. No software updates are listed as being available despite the last one being from early 2020. Is there an obscure setting that will help or is this a dealer warranty issue?
I have attached some photos but the images do not really show the seriousness of the problem. It can best be seen on the google maps icon and the phone icon as dark spots where the image is missing. Around when this problem started the lower left white icons may have changed configuration from two blocks to 8. This may be unrelated. Thanks in advance for your suggestions |

Have you tried unhooking the battery, let it stayed disconnected for a good hour or so, and then reconnecting it and checking the infotainment screen?

Also, seems there is a way to "reset" the infotainment system... Found this:
"In order to return MyLink to a functional unit you have to shut off the car, open the door, close the door, don't lock the car (I didn't anyways) and let it sit for 5 minutes or longer. Once you turn the car back on the system will be reset and return to normal. Don't worry, none of your settings will be deleted."

Infotainment Screen Still Dim
Sorry for the delayed response, I had account issues.
I did not ret disconnecting the battery, as I was concerned what else that would reset. I did follow your second suggestion, which did not help. Either you left out a step or I misunderstood. Basically your approach was equivalent to getting out of the car and getting back in at a later time. Based on this it seems like it would reset every time you got back in the car. Maybe I am missing something. Regardless the problem is very annoying, and the maps are almost unusable. Attaching another picture for good measure. Hoping someone else has experienced this. Even if just to say it is a loose wire somewhere that the dealer must reattach. |

Edit: What does the display look like in other modes besides car play such as radio/aux/menus/built in Nav/ etc/
Is it still bad? If not try a new a brand new cable to the phone. If that does not help I would suspect the display is going bad. Take it to the dealer for warranty work.

Bad across the board
As far as I can see, it is bad across the board. Maps and music through an official apple cable are bad. Also just looking at the home screen or playing the radio with no cable attached are also bad. Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order unless anyone else has more ideas for me to try.

I bet it isn't the display screen itself, these artifacts look like the controller is feeding it junk color data, so I would suspect the HMI module or something in its (logical) vicinity. Your observation of these other issues also reinforces that the screen itself is unlikely to be the culprit.

Finally made it in to the dealer to get the screen looked at. They ended up replacing the entire unit. So it doesn't seem like it was a bad connection or other sort of electrical problem. Thankfully all my settings ported over to the new one.
Thanks to everyone who provided replies and suggestions. I appreciate your insights. |
