First gear require gas at all times?

I've been having this problem since I got the car and it can be easily ignored but I need to know if something is actually wrong.

After shifting into first gear, the moment I take my foot off the gas my car starts to want to stall. It feels like it's desperately needing more gas so I either give it gas or press the clutch in. I usually just avoid this by going to second gear but it's not always convenient to go into second. I also have the same problem in second but it's not as bad. Do I have a problem or are camaros just too heavy and need a constant supply of gas in first gear?

I do not have that problem in my 2012 LS3. On level ground I can slowly let the clutch out and roll in 1st without giving it any gas.

Is the car bucking if you let out the clutch and don't give it gas? I've had a few manuals that need a little pedal or they will buck and stall. Mainly was due to a low idle speed, not enough to overcome the drop in RPM when the clutch engaged, but since your's is also doing it sometimes in 2nd, I'm wondering if your clutch is slipping? Any known clutch issues prior to this?

Well when you take your foot off the gas the engine is braking and slowing you down. In higher gears this isn't as noticeable since first gear is geared to be very short (more torque to get moving). So in first you usually will need to apply gas unless you are on flat ground and can roll along in first just using the engines idle speed.


So yes gas in first is necessary lol

With 3.45's, you're almost always going to need gas. With the 3.91's, it'll still stall if you let the clutch out too quickly but it's quite a bit better.

This. I cant speak for the 3.45s but with 3.91 there are days I accidentally let it out too quickly (giggity) and it bogs a little. a bit touchy.

For some reason I couldn't find this thread yesterday lol

If I'm in first and get up to around 10-15 mph and let go of the gas it will start to jerk. Even with a slight decline. It does it right below 2000 rpms. If it's closer to 1000 it does it more but at that point it's obvious that it's natural. I was just wondering because I got it used and it came with a borla exhaust and I was wondering if I need a tune. I have a 1LE btw so I have the 3.91 ratio.

Did you buy the car new or used ? I have a cam in my 1le and you will need more gas if cammed hell I can't even run under 1200rpm without bucking in all gears. If you start bucking with out a cam you are definetly not giving it enough gas and may need some more practice using a clutch.

I hope one would be able to tell if a car is cammed lol. He said he got it used.

What OP is experiencing is normal. It can be worked around with practice. Just pop into 2nd and it will be much smoother

Dude I thought I was the only one! Still haven't figured it out. I even told my tuner to hop in and do a street tune. Ofcourse, it didn't do it with him in the car. It does it all the time on regular driving. I get rid of it the same way as you do lol, either shifting to second or punching it.
