V6 Engine Cover Mod???
Has anyone modded their Engine Cover for the V6? I just got a 2018 RS V6 Redline Edition and I have seen custom engine covers that are painted on a few sites but pricey. I figured there would be some do it yourself paint or vinyl mods here.
Any thoughts or recommendations? Something like this... https://www.southerncarparts.com/201...hoC5UIQAvD_BwE I want to keep it black, with hot red inserts...and change the bowtie to black... |

Just paint your own. It isn't hard. Comes out looking fine. Costs next to nothing.

Nice work. That looks like it came from the factory that way. What paint did you use, was it color matching to your car? I figured someone here had already done it. I am surprised they don't sell vinyl inserts anywhere for them.
I accept the challenge, I will paint mine and post it when I am done. |

You can do River City level work with Bondo and actual car paint if you want.
Mine is rattle can high temp enamel meant for engines/ grills, etc. Been holding up great for over a couple years now of daily driving. Car is black (mosaic). It matches up fairly well. |

Remember that preparation is the key for the paint to last longer. You can use a degreaser to clean it really well and apply adhesion promoter.

Adhesion promoter is really becoming a must have item. Paint and anything 3M sticky taped it makes a huge difference. Also, be sure to use multiple lighter coats as opposed to heavier. With rattle can it is so easy to go that little to far and get run Mark's, which are a pain to remove. I did a few projects in the beginning where I rushed using thicker coats with shorter drying times between them, it ends up a mess. The center layers wind up "soft" almost because it isn't fully dry so if you wet sand it or touch it to soon you can leave finger prints and marks, nothing is more of a bummer then having the time in and a.mess up at the end. Not like I'm a pro or anything, I have just been getting into the painting side more and more the past few years and love it. It really opens up the aftermarket stuff when you can do it yourself instead of having to budget in paint costs for everything you get. I used to race RC cars and worked nights so got into airbrushing the RC bodies. That was all it took to addict me lol. I haven't yet but want to do some airbrushed art on my car someday, if I can get enough courage up lol. With YouTube anything is within your grasp. Lol
