much thanks! Usually they just ship in a cardboard box with no extra packing materials.

I would adjust your plan a little.

Throw out the ideas of light weight body parts. CF stuff thats currently on the market is 1-2 pound savings in place of its aluminum counterpart. Real light weight stuff CF is going to cost your 2-3X those prices and will be brittle and probably not fit as well as stock.

If you want to go lighter, Get yourself a race seat and harness bar for track days and look at a lighter wheel option. Remove the seats and install your race seat for track days and bolt on your light weight wheels with better compound. That will easily hit your 100 pound reduction goal right there without sacrificing the DD ability of the car. If you want to drop an extra 20 the battery is not a bad idea but your cost per pound saved starts to become a stretch.

When it comes to power, Ported stock intake/TB, Rotofab and some headers with a good e85 track tune and your looking at 50-75 horsepower increase over stock while still keeping the good street manners.

I dont agree with changing the suspension of the 1LE, the car has been dialed in by GM already and they forgot more than any of us think we know. Poly and rod end stuff is in constant need of attention and loud and clanky on the street (been there done that).

Add some of the 2SS goodies you want, they wont affect weight.

The rest of the money that you saved would be more wisely spent on driving school and track days. Good luck!
Very good points... GM did a really good job with this car... all the components I've thought might save weight with CF have so far turned out to be negligable and worse overall ( eg CF hoods that weaken over time due to engine heat )

Rear seat backs are definately coming out... bottoms are only 4 lbs so I'll probably leave them if they're too much trouble.

Was never going to mess with the suspension... one of the big reasons I'm having finding wheels is that I'm trying to keep the tire foot print width the same so as not to upset the excellent balance GM has set up this car with...

Once I get the Recaro seat weights I will see if it is worth replacing them with Cobra Misano's... higher thigh bolsters, seat heaters for Canadian winters, and lumber support ( not sure why the Camaro/ZL1 Recaros omitted lumbar)... all this at 22-24 lbs with leather and synthetic suede centers...

trying to find a good light weight header and full exhaust option that still allows use of NPP.... Ironically, if you want a really loud car, you need NPP so that you can press a button when the cops come round the corner...

I'm heading to Spring Mountain Racing in 2017 once they get their 2017 1LE's that the instructors use to lead around the Corvette Driving School. Rich Hearn was kind enough to let me ride shotgun to do some hot laps in both the Z51 and regular 2016 SS to compare their handling last spring. Definitely on my list!

Have they released an update on the 1LE ordering protocol, I thought it was only available in 1SS trim for weight reasons?

Your post is really thorough though! I'm excited to see what you come up with since I have a 1LE now and plan on doing some weight saving mods as well!

Wow, y'all are really going over the top...
The swappable track day pieces sounded like a good idea. Carbon wheels?

lots of numbers here... again trying to stay thorough since this car isnt coming for a few months and I want to have everything figured out....

So to stay on a budget, I'll probably start with fully fledged raged Stance VS03's staggered at 19" x 10", 19" x 11"

the estimated weight for my sizes 22.5 - 23.0 lbslbs
the OEM 1LE (shipping) weight is 28-29 lbs ( maybe 1/4 lb for box?)

285/35ZR19
99Y SL BSW 26.9" 11.4" 9.5-11" 10" 10/32" SL 1709 lbs 51 psi 29 lbs 772

305/35ZR19
102Y SL BSW 27.4" 12.3" 10-12" 11" 8/32" SL 1874 lbs 51 psi 30.7 lbs 758

that keeps the .5" rake we spoke of....

by comparison ( and I realize the goodyears may weigh more or less) heres the specs of PSS in the 1LE OEM size

285/30ZR20
99Y XL BSW 26.8" 11.4" 9.5-10.5" 10" 10/32" XL 1709 lbs 50 psi 27.5 lbs 777

305/30ZR20
103Y XL BSW 27.2" 12.3" 10.5-11.5" 11" 9/32" XL 1929 lbs 50 psi 31.8 lbs 764

so thats a NET TOTAL WEIGHT SAVINGS OF 28lbs

being rotating mass unsprung weight, it counts as triple ... so car should respond like it lost about 84lbs

I imagine that the road racers and track rats here can let me know if that weight savings is worth the shoe swap.....

AWESOME! Ive been following your progress... All this planning is getting me impatient...

On the wheel front... I might be spending an extra grand to do with these

Vertini/Stance Wheels VS 03

fully forged for $2500 and I'm have been told only 22 lbs at 19x10/19x11 size...

still doing some research since its a new wheel and I want to be sure thats the weight if I'm paying a premium.

Would get them in dark gunmetal to match the hood and rest of car....

Anyone have experience with Vertini wheels?

I really like them because they have a sort of angular resemblance to the 1LE wheels... and if they are indeed only 22-23 lbs ... thats 24 lbs of unsprung rotating weight savings that translates to approximately 75 lbs of inertia taken out of the car....

Wheels

Here's what I will be going with

Vertini / Stance Wheels FULLY FORGED aluminum wheels

19x 10" fronts, 19x 11" rears

semi gloss black with ceramic coating

22.6 and 23.0 lbs,
front and rear respectively

saving 7 lbs per corner... total weight savings of 28 lbs unsprung rotating mass... should translate into roughly an 84 lb trim of the car's inertia...

with the removal of the back seats... that puts me at 100 lbs of felt weight savings...

Most likely an aluminum drive shaft next which will save a further 8-10 lbs and approximately 30 lbs of inertia due to its rotating mass. (might also help with engine rev and and spin up)

the best part will be the fact that my car should be arriving sometime in March... which is right around when the new Michellin Pilot Sport 4 S tires...

285/35R19 and 305/35R19
most likely....

few updates....

first of all there is now a REAR SEAT DELETE kit by Schrader

http://shraderperformance.com/shop/p...r-seat-delete/

looks interesting... even better they have free install instructions which give us all insight into the process of removing the seats...

http://www.shraderperformance.com/install/cam6.pdf

I still might get a custom job done since I'm thinking of retaining the seat bottoms and would use a flexible high strength net covered by sound deadening fabric so I could secure long loads like my hockey gear and spare wheels and tires... the load limit on the floor of this unit is only 100 lbs... whereas the originals seat bottoms are good for at least 150-200 pounds per seat....

Second... I'm thinking of going down a full inch smaller in overall wheel+tire diameter (not matching the original diameter by increasing sidewall size as I decrease wheel size as to preserve the speedo calibration)

I have posted a thread in the relevant section... but I was also hoping those following here might be able to chime in....

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...38#post9493038

I see alot of benefits and am trying to ensure I am not missing some pitfalls...

And now for something a little different... VORTEX GENERATORS

I'm sure I will get alot of head shakes for this one... but as a pilot who has had experience using these... they work and produce REAL results...

I can quantify this because we had several aircraft without them... and two of the same aircraft that did have them... and it increased their useful load by a significant portion as well as decreased their stall speed.

for those not familiar with VG's....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vortex_generator

this guy's explanation is pretty on point;

found an outfit that makes some automotive applications:

http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/perfo...kz/vortekz.php

some real world testing...

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=113219

I will be doing alot of long winding deserted highway drives...

here's a drive I have done about 30 times now... round trip... I average 8.5 hours and my best time was 8 hours....

https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/CALGA...49.2827291!3e0

so when you do the math... I spend plenty of time above 60 mph where air fluid dynamics become relevent...

and now for some eye candy... and perhaps some that is beauty only in the eye of the beholder....

photoshop of the wheels

photoshop of the (potential) VG mod (doesnt look so bad considering the sharkfin is already there...)

What's your goal for the car? In other words, how are you planning on using your car? Reason I ask is because depending on your goal, there might be some better options for you regarding you part list.

Here is are build thread in case you haven't seen it. We have made a lot of mistaken and wouldn't want to see you repeat them. For example, we are running the same Cobra Misano seats you posted and based on the direction are care has taken.... we wouldn't use them today. We are basically going to replace them. Those seats aren't cheap either, so expensive mistake.
