245 vs 275 up front

Why do the SS Camaros have 245's up front, I want to buy 9.5s and run square up 275 all the way around so I can rotate the tires as well, is there any benefit to 245's up front? Fuel mileage? Shouldn't be that big a hit if any.

I have 9.5 by 19 squared. you have to watch the clearance to the spring perch. 22ET iirc
Apex arc-8. 20s may give enough if your tucking the fronts. be careful with mail order, you wear them you own them.

I run 20 X 10 square with 27535R20 for the same reason- to be able to rotate my tires. 28 offset. No issues at all.

I wondered if it had anything to do with reducing tramlining. But then again, I dont really know what causes tramlining.

it's a higher performance set-up and more balanced, will also reduce some understeer - at the expense of some additional tramlining on bad roads especially at highway speeds, and some additional steering effort - which to me is a good thing.

The scat pack Challengers get 275 square and the wide bodies get 315's square.

I am running 275's on the front of my 71 Camaro and it drives just fine.

Soon my 6th gen will have 295 square on 10.5" rims.

I've heard for years that GM dials in a little understeer into these cars. -Vettes, etc. etc. to make 'em a little more forgiving on the track for Joe newguy. That could certainly be a reason for the 245. I know on the 3rd and 4th gens, a square setup was ideal, even at the expense of going wider. IE, square is more important than going as wide as possible out back. I know these cars are pushing more power, so I can't speak to 6th gens, but from the responses it appears to be the same.

I know the 245 square set up on Irocs/GTAs/TAs would noticeably increase tramlining. That width was about as wide as most of us had even driven back then. I'm running 275s up front on my SS and I definitely can feel it, although not enough to feel unsafe or anything.

The SS 1LE comes with 285 up front. My winter set is 275 square. No issues with either set-up. I haven't driven a camaro with the 245's up front, but I can definitely say that the 285 tramline a decent amount.

Tramlining depends I would not say it's bad or even in the tramlining catagory. It's more like better feedback. Think, if your asking it to do track duty, it's ready, able, and willing. This car is set up really well. I was surprised how well it behaves. The electric power steering is superb on this car. I'm not lowered. but its a 2T also.

I ran square 265s on 9.5” wide 16” CCW wheels back in the day on my 3rd gen Street car that doubled as a track car. Was a really nice setup on that car.
