Special Oil for LT1???

Ok get this, go to the dealer for my complimentary oil change and tire rotation(first oil change),called day before they said come next day 8:30AM, I'm like awesome see ya than. I get there and 15 minutes later the Tech and sales guy that sold me the LT1 approach me and tell me they can't do the service because my Camaro takes a "Special Oil". I'm like what. I should of asked what kind of special or mystery oil are we talking about here but I was so pissed I just said are keys in the car and the tech said yes and I just drove out of the bay and left. Here's what I think happened, they only had Full synthetic and didn't want to give that and instead put probably synthetic blend in Camaro and it wouldn't cost them as much which would have been ok with me. What's your opinion.

No, what happened is that they did not have mobil 1 0W-40 full synthetic European formula on hand. This is the latest suggested oil for the LT1 from GM. Before this "almighty" lubricant came into existence in 2019, it was perfectly fine to use good old mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic on your LT1 engine.

I'm sure lots do because they aren't aware GM changed the recommendation.

My dealer not only sent me an email but actually sent me a new oil filler cap with Mobil1 0w-40 to replace the original one.

I am sure people still use 5w-30 mobil 1 full synthetic on their LT1 as it is the original recommended lubricant since the 2014 C7 LT1 was launched almost a whole decade ago in 2013.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. But I won't be going back to dealer ship for any service unless warranty issues.

Honestly, I would not go back even for warranty issues. Google chevy service departments within a 50 mile radius of your area and choose the one with the highest amounts of 5 star reviews. You want the most competent service department doing your warranty work, even if they are a few minutes further away.

I guess when you have to cold start your LT1 on those (-20°F) days, that zero weight just might make that piston moan a little more sexy like down the stroke of the bore.

You can get 5w-30 dexos2 for less than $20 for 5 quarts where I live. Think I was wrong 5w-30 is dexos1. 5w plenty thin for middle Ga.

The "European Formula" is not Dexos2, the Factory fill and recommended oil is Mobil1 0W-40 ESP Formula (being rebranded as Mobil1 0W-40 SuperCar), also Mobil1 0W-40 ESP X3 is Dexos2 as well and is fine.
