Is a Tune Worth It?

Hello ,
I have a 2014 SS Automatic.
I’m debating wether I should tune or just delete the AFM?
My only mod is a Borla Catback exhaust and the rest is stock.
Wondering if those that have gotten the tune on a stock car, was it worth it?
How much HP gain can I expect or what can I expect from the tune. Thanks in advance .

Disabling the DOD with a tune is not the same as removing it. With the tune, the potential problem is still there. You don't *need* a tune with basic mods but they give you that little extra oompf. The big difference will be in the trans tune, most people say that's why they are happy with the tune.

I have guy that told me he can calibrate the AFM out of my car, should I not trust that?
He didn’t say tune it out but calibrate it out

He simply disables the feature. Its not the same as physically removing the problem lifters and associated hardware. Nothing wrong with doing so, but don't be fooled into thinking the problem has been solved.

So what would you recommend to avoid that issue?
New lifters and cam package sort of thing?

Yup. How many miles are on the car? Based on the model year, I wouldn't be super concerned unless you plan on driving the car hard a lot/tracking/racing

It’s got 27k miles.
This is my daily . The AFM delete is just so that annoying sound goes away, nothing else.
No track or drag use in the future .

You could simply get a Range and disable the AFM for about $100 (used). I got a tune from Dyno Steve because I went with LTH so during that process, my AFM was disabled.

I was thinking of doing e85 with a tune.
Anyone that has done this, is it worth it?

E85 won't do much on a stock engine. A boosted engine can see much bigger gains from it. If you are just around town playing with the car a dyno steve tune is the way to go. If you plan on tracking it or want more power, do a cam kit with new lifters. The obd disable device won't do nearly as much for the car that a dyno steve tune will.

Is a tune worth it? Is the space pope reptilian?

While tuning doesnt get rid of the dod crap, IT does prolong the chances until it fails. I had mine tuned out at 37k and now i am at 755xx with proper oil maintanence and so far no issues, no metal flakes etc. I have a cam kit that will be going in and ill see how bad the damage could really be.

e85 will not really benefit a stock engine. e85 makes a difference on a built engine or boosted applications. Yes it will made a difference but nothing beneficial on a stock cam, stock exhaust stock engine.

After reading different threads regarding tunes and simple mods I seem to be losing track. I run the 13 2SS/RS L99. Stock it will turn 13.2 but since my last trip to the track I added the cold air intake. I do not mind the AFM because it is related to fuel economy, is it not? I did pull the fuse in the trunk that allows the exhaust to remain open. As I understand it if I do a future mod then get a tune, otherwise no reason to?

the AFM or DOD as we call it is what fails. the lifters are not real lifters and when they fail they destroy the cam and send metal through the entire engine. i disabled it and actually got better fuel economy. we didnt buy a v8 for fuel economy.

There will be a thread somewhere that explains how to disable the AFM I suspect. My car with 101K miles is subject to this failure.
